I am sorry to here you are feeling bad, I know what you are going through! All of advice is excellent but nothing really helped me except time... getting through it, and reminding myself that it won't go on forever.

Hi Cari,

I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm pregnant for the third time with twins. I won't list things you should eat, because if you're like me, it just makes you sick to your stomach.

I just wanted to say to really keep track of your weight and what you are able to keep down. When I was about 8 weeks I had to go to the hospital for IV fluids, I was so dehydrated. I lost about 20 pounds from weeks 5 to 12. I now have a Zofran pump that gives me the medicine constantly, it has absolutely been a lifesaver. So, if things get really bad, be sure to let your doctor know.

Good luck!

Peppermints help. My mother-in-law bought me a huge tub of them when I was pregant, and they really help. I felt like I was on a boat for the first 3months I was pregnant. I took anti-nausua pills but all they made me do was sleep for like 12 hours straight. Also my doctor told me to eat a little bit ever hour or so, so you don't get hungry. B/c when you get hungry you start to feel sick. I hope you feel better.

I couldn't take the iron... even the SloFe was hard for me to take.

Try the peppermint... and try tablespoons of ginger. A friend did the ginger and she said it worked for her.

Hi Cari,

I am 9 weeks along with my second and I am exhausted too. I got the sick feeling under control by eating a little bit every few hours, but my Dr. gave me Zofran also in case I needed it. I haven't taken it yet. Have you tried the preggie pops? My friend swears by those. I wish I had more advice for you. I have heard that Zofran is the miracle drug. I'm sorry it isn't working well for you. I hope that it gets better for you soon. Just wanted you to know that I can sympathize! Congratulations and good luck to you. Be sure to thank your hubby for helping out so that you can get to bed at 8pm. I have to do the same thing. I am running on fumes here!

Have you tried some thing containing Ginger (Ale) Recipes like ginger chicken, that kind od thing, Ginger is well known for it's soothing properties. Try pickles maybe, bananas or tomatoes, for potasium properties it helps.
If you start throwing up allot call your physician, Dehydration of your body in pregnancy can effect your babies mental and physical growth, and they can give you a I.V. solution to save you from that.

My doctor had me eat Ginger Snap cookies instead of crackers, and actually had me drink one Coca-Cola (cool but not cold) per day. She originally had me trying an OTC syrup but it was so thick and sweet it made me gag. The coke worked wonders!

Everyone is different - my experience was that we each react differently to pregnancy, but often have the same experiences each time we are pregnant. My sister had the same problem as yourself with all her pregnancies (she had had 4 children by the time I had my first - she's since had 6 more for a total of 10). So, I had expected the same for myself, but didn't have the same problem at all with the nausea throughout the pregnancy. There have been past discussion on this board of two anti-nausea products that seem to be okay for pregnancy (Phernagan/Zofran) - I think there are some risks, but if you're that bad off, you might get some relief. You should ask your doctor about those. You might also want to make sure you're not anemic - you may need extra iron beyond what is in a prenatal - I did with my second child, who was born 2 1/2 years after my first. Particularly since your body has not yet fully recovered from your first pregnancy (if your note about having a 10 month old is accurate). Also, you be may deficient in B vitamins (B6 in particular). Here's an article that mentions that it can help with nausea during pregnancy:
http://www.babycenter.com/0_vitamin-b6-how-it-benefits-yo...

I will also note that both my sister and I found out that we are celiac (an intolerance to the protein found in wheat, rye, barley and most oats) after we had our kids and celiac can result in deficiencies in B vitamins due to the damage to the intestine - you don't have to have overt GI symptoms. I'm just thinking in hindsight that my sister's problems likely were due to not being diagnosed until after she had suffered through 10 pregnancies. And, it's actually quite interesting in that if you just look up Nausea in Wikipedia, it mentions that it can be due to Celiac disease: "While short-term nausea and vomiting are generally harmless, they may sometimes indicate a more serious condition, such as Coeliac disease."

So you really might want to have yourself screened for that during your next doctor's visit. It is the most under-diagnosed genetic disorder and if you have it while pregnant, your fetus can be impacted (both my kids were born without enamel on their baby teeth since my body was absorbing the necessary nutrients). My sister also had problems with her teeth post-pregnancy, because your body will give the nutrients to the fetus before the mother.

And, my final words of mother's wisdom, is that you really do need to take care of yourself while pregnant and working extra hours is not at all helpful for you or your baby. I learned that the hard way with my first pregnancy and ended up with pre-eclampsia and delivered him at 38 weeks and he spent 5 days in ICU. With second child, I took it easy at work and fortunately had a boss that was very flexible - had I not had such a boss I would have taken my doctor up on her offer for me to go to reduced hours and off work entirely far earlier. It is so not worth the risk of your health and your babies to work extra hard while pregnant. You may well just be extra sleepy now because your body needs you to rest so that it focus its energies on developing a healthy baby for you.

Good luck!

Have you tired Altiods or peppermint candy? I say Altiods b/c they are strong and not sugary like the regular ones. Are you taking Iron meds too b/c I just couldn't take them. They made me really sick and a regular vitamin makes me sick b/c of the Iron. Check how much you are getting. And instead try eating foods the have lots of iron, vitamins and protien. If you still want to take your vitamin try taking it at night. Also eat in small portions and frequently.
Hopeful it will get better and you can start enjoying your pregnancy.
Congrats on your pregnancy and Good Luck

Definately try ginger. I had the same problem (only threw up twice) with my second. You don't have to take straight ginger though. You can try ginger ale, gingerbread cookies, etc. Best of luck to you.

Check with your OB. The prenatals he has you on could possibly have too much iron in them for your system, and that may be what is making you feel so sick. (Happened with me in my 1st pregnancy)

As for the exhaustion, you have just barely gotten over having one baby, and now you're pregnant again, so your body is really feeling the "strain".

I have a friend who had her baby girls 12 months apart, so I will ask her what she did for the exhaustion. I know she has a wonderful husband who helped out a LOT during both of her pregnancies! Just keep getting as much rest as you can, and please call on close friends and neighbors to help you with your daughter and housework. You may also have to figure out how to include the cost of deliver/take out/eating out this pregnancy.

Is there any way you can do any part of your job from home, so you can take more frequent breaks? Or go ahead and work part time?

Good news ~ you're 2/3 of the way thru your 1st trimester again, so hang in there!

I'll get my friend's answer to you as soon as I can.

Take care of yourself!
