I was reading the other request for songs and I thought I could ask the same questions only for a different reason. I am singing in my sisters wedding next August and need a song to sing. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your suggestions!

From This Moment. I know Shania Twain sings a version of it. I have heard it sung at many weddings, most often by sisters of the bride. The words alone are beautiful! Good Luck!

Hi P.! I had my 2 sisters sing in my wedding as part of the cerimony. I had them sing "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson. It's super fitting. Let us know what you decide! :)

Depends on the purpose of your song...is this something you plan to sing to the bride and groom as a couple or something to honor you and your sister's relationship?

My sister had "you light up my life", I just did wedding pictures for a wedding and she had Big & Rich " Lost in this moment with you ", also a old song is "Color My World" I am not sure who sings it, my parents had it at their wedding over 30 years ago. " Your the inspiration" is also good. Have fun!!!

Hi, P. --

Ah, songs... it's always such a personal choice about what works for a particular couple for a particular event.

One song that I absolutely LOVE is called "I'll Be Here" by Stephen Curtis Chapman. It's a Christian song about a lifelong love, and I sang it for my friends' wedding.

Shania Twain's "From This Moment On" is also terrific!

I always have my ears out for songs that would make good wedding songs, but I'm unfortunately drawing a blank at the moment on other selections.

I hope this helps!

For weddings, I've always like Taylor Dane's "I'll Always Love You" and Christina Aguilera's "Loving Me for Me."

We had Martina McBride's song Valentine and I Cherish the Treasure, Not sure who sings it. Lyrics are
I cherish the treasure
The treasure of you
Lifelong companion
I give myself to you
God has enabled me
To walk with you faithfully
And cherish the treasure
The treasure of you

As I obey the Spirit's voice
And seek to do His will
I then can see the wisdom of His way
For as He works His will in me
I then can love you selflessly
And by His grace, can pledge my love to you

Chorus

This sacred vow I make to you
Does not contain an "if"
Though I'm aware that trials lie ahead
I will love you and pray with you
And through it all, I will stay with you
Our home will be a refuge of
Unconditional love

Chorus
Cherish the treasure
The treasure of you

My sister in law had Love Can Build a Bridge by the Judds and Your Love Amazes Me by John Berry and one other was George Straits I Cross My Heart. All of them were great and I can't listen to any of them now without tearing up. Good luck.

A song I love is "When God Made You" (He Must Have Been Thinking About Me) recorded by Newsong with Natalie Grant. "Cherish the Treasure"(which someone else mentioned) is an older song by Steve Green. Another great classic is "Always" by Atlantic Starr. I'm also a fan of Steven Curtis Chapman and we had "I Will Be Here" in our wedding too. His new song "Cinderella" is great too. Enjoy the special day and congratulations on your baby on the way!

"Sunrise, Sunset" is a good traditional one. Part of it depends on the couple, too...did you ask your sister? I also like "We've only just begun".

If you are religious in any way, go to a Christian bookstore and they usually have a section of wedding songs. There are some beautiful ones there. Or, if you have a music store, you could go in and ask for or find a wedding song book and look through it for ideas. Also, if you know someone who plays the piano at a lot of weddings (like a church pianist or organist), they usually have a lot of wedding song ideas.

I think it's great that you are singing for your sister. I sang at my sister's wedding as well, and it was very special to both of us.

Congrats to her!!

Are you singing at the actual wedding ceremony, or at the reception? In either case, I have some suggestions. My DH has been a professional musician for over 40 years, and he has played loads of weddings, some with female vocalists, and some without. Anyway, here are my suggestions:

* At Last ~ Etta James (always a wedding favorite)
* Here, There, and Everywhere ~ The Beatles
* Grow Old Along With Me ~ John Lennon / Mary Chapin Carpenter
* Into The Mystic ~ Van Morrison (#1 request for DH's crowd)
* Moondance ~ Van Morrison
* Have I Told You Lately ~ Van Morrison
* How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) ~ Marvin Gaye / James Taylor
* Natural Woman ~ Carol King / Aretha Franklin
* Ooo, Baby Bay ~ Smokey Robinson / Linda Ronstadt
* I'm The Only One ~ Melissa Ethridge

If I think up any more, I'll come running back to overwhelm you! LOL.

BTW ~ "Color My World" was done by Chicago. I saw that someone else had suggested that one, but didn't know who performed it. :)

P.,

You've probably selected your song by now, but I had to put in my two cents.

We had "Our Love Is Here To Stay" played at our wedding. Sounds good sung fast or slow, jazzy or irreverently. My favorite version is the Ella Fitzgerald one she did with Louis Armstrong.

Good luck!

There is a song called "Grow Old Along with Me." It was originally recorded by John Lennon, but Mary Chapin Carpenter also did a BEAUTIFUL version. There is also a song by John Denver called "For You." Both are alto songs but I am sure they could be transposed to a higher key if you need to. Good luck!

Unchained Melody, Wind Beneath my Winds, or The Rose (Conway Twitty) I think the best choice is the The Rose but this is such a personal decision! Beautiful songs. I'm sure that your sister would appreciate any song you took the time to sing for her! Good luck, Shannon G.

We had a song called Cherish sung at our wedding. I believe it is 'Cherish the Treasure' by Steve Green. We really liked the words and what they meant. You can google search for song lyrics, I think I found it on Gospel music lyrics.com.

We had the Steven Curtis Chapman song I'll be There and Peter Paul & Mary's song "There is Love". Funny story, my mom heard this song on 7th Heaven when Matt & Sarah got married and she told me about it and I loved it! Both songs were awesome. Here are the lyrics to There is Love...

He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part.
The union of your spirits, here, has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love. There is Love.

Well, a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where the two should be as one.
As it was in the beginning is now until the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again.
And there is Love. There is Love.

Well, then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife?
Is it Love that brings you here or Love that brings you life?
Or if loving is the answer, then who's the giving for?
Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?
Oh there's Love, there is Love.

Oh the marriage of your spirits here has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love. Oh there's Love.

Goodluck!
