Get her a massage or a day at a spa or even find a hairstylist that might offer coming to her house to cut her hair.
It is nice of you to throw her a shower.
Good luck

That sounds like a great idea! You sound like a great friend!

For gift ideas, I'd say maybe some bath and lotion things to pamper herself, massage gift certificate or manicure/pedicure gift certificate. Maybe even make some kind of a card that can be used as a night out for her and you or someone else would babysit for her. A gift certificate for her favorite store(s) to treat herself to a few new clothing items.

I also have a daughter who is almost 5 months old. Looks like our babies are just about the same age. I'm 28 as well. Where are you from? I'm always looking for mom friends who are closer to my age.

I think this is a great idea. There's a Native American ceremony called a Blessingway. It focuses on mom, giving her strength and support for the upcoming labor and birth work. I'm sure you could adapt that to be post baby. Here are a few of the rituals you could try-
Everyone participates in beading a necklace for mom- each woman brings a bead that reflects herself, or her relationship with the new mom
Instead of a necklace, everyone could bring a square of fabric to be quilted together by a member of the group
Everyone can bring a quote, verse, scripture, etc that reflects herself, her wishes for the new mother, her wishes for the baby, etc to be put into a small journal at the party- with each woman reading her quote to mom while she attaches it to the page.
You have a spa day (maybe a massage therapist could come and give mom a massage...or you could have facials, manicures, etc)

As for gifts- you could have a sign up sheet for a food train (dinner every night for a couple of weeks- each guest signs up for a couple), or make coupons for things like laundry, babysitting for a bath or date, etc. Depending on your friend, she may enjoy a gift cert to a hotel for a night with just her partner, or she may enjoy more just an evening out or at home. She may be just fitting back into her pre-pregnancy clothes, or realizing that she's not the same shape anymore, so maybe a gift cert for some new threads, a haircut, a massage, something that will make her remember that she's still someone other than "just" mom. Your friend is blessed to have such a thoughtful friend ready to give her a great "mom-shower"! Let me know if you want any more details- I can email them to you, along with a couple of book titles, sayings, other ceremonies, etc.

If you are getting a gift for Mom- most Mom's just want time with their children. Like for me- my Mom would want to spend the day doing something with us, like facials, pedicures, maicures..that kind of thing. Maybe going out to lunch, and then shopping for the perfect something...cloths, shoes, purses, jewlery...Or you could do an activity like bowling, tennis, or paint pottery...

If you are the Mom who is looking for a get away day- pamper yourself and do something you've put off for the kids like painting, reading, sleeping, just relaxing...Even take a trip to a Victoria Secret and get something that makes you feel sexy.(even if it's just for you)..Make your day about you..Buy your self flowers, and watch your favorite movie...Go out to dinner with your boyfriend/husband/partner or who ever makes you happy. Have some drinks or splurge on the large desert for a change. Take time away from the kids for the weekend, or just the afternoon.

If the gift is for another Mom- take her out and make her feel like queen for the day. Shopping, movies, food, girl talk...really anything that releaves the stress of Motherhood for a while. You could always offer to watch her kids and give her the ability to do errands, get a hair cut, ect. with out the kids.

Actual gifts...A leather bound Journal, a fancy pen.. A scrap book of memories, a book of poetry, a necklace/bracelet with the kids birthstones or footprints/handprints on it (www.cuddlebabies.com), anything handmade...

That's such a neat and thoughtful idea. I think any new mom would love to receive offers for free babysitting and meals made for the family, spa items and gift certificates, good books NOT baby related, maybe even stuff to do with her favorite hobby. A girl's night out might be even better! But if you do the thing with games think of bridal shower type games that are only about the bride--like the one with her favorite things/colors/foods/etc.

For gifts you could get her a post baby massage, or body lotions, a day at the spa, take her to get her hair done.

Games: It is kinda hard to think of post baby games but if it is going to be when it is nice out you could do horse shoes, badmiten, volleyball?
