Hi everyone,
My 5 day year old refuses to sleep in his co-sleeper. What are people's thoughts on using the snuggle nest in the bed? Any other tips to get him to sleep on his own without my holding him all night long?

What can I do next?

Have you tried swaddling him? That worked for my son. Also, sometimes I would put his blanket in the dryer for a minute just to make it warm befor wrapping him, that way he wasn't going from my warm arms to a cold bed.

You may want to try addressing some of the things that may be causing your little one to dislike the cosleeper- like not being close enough to you and the change in temp. You may put a worn tshirt of your in so baby can still smell you, and you may have a blanket over the crib sheet to warm the bed before you put baby in. Also be sure the baby is well wrapped in the blanket. That said, all my babies preferred to be next to me rather than in the crib, and it really didn't matter what contraption I tried, in bed with me was usually the final arrangement.

I would stick to swaddeling, which is much safer. If you haven't already, please read Harvy Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block. It has great tips for getting a baby to sleep, but, honestly, at 5 days, there isn't really much you can do besides swaddeling.

My son always hated his co-sleeper too, so he slept in his crib from the first week.

Have you tried swaddling him tightly with a small blanket? Usually that does the trick. If not, they often like the sound of the heartbeat-adding an old-time ticking alarm clock (without the alarm set, of course) might work also.

congrats on your new addition! my little boy is now 14 months. we actually put the snuggle nest inside the co-sleeper and it worked great. our bed was not big enough to fit my husband and i plus the snuggle nest so that was really our only option but we liked the way it worked out. good luck with everything!!

I can't recommend the Amby Baby Hammock http://www.ambybaby.com/ enough! It was a sanity saver for us with our baby. I just wish I had used it from the very beginning. I bought mine from another mom off of Craig's List so I saved some money. Now that we are done with it I'm getting ready to list it back on Craig's List as it is still in great condition.

Seriously, best baby product ever!

Hi K. and congrats on your new bundle of joy!

Remember that he is used to being squished inside your tummy nice and safe and warm so do what you can to keep him feeling secure. I would highly recommend swaddling him in the snuggle nest. I looked up what they were and I don't see any reason why you couldn't put it in your bed, between the two of you, not near the edge. I'm not sure if you plan to co-sleep with him or not but the sooner he is used to being alone to sleep, the better off you all will be.

It's going to be trial and error for a bit but remember as long as his diaper is dry, his belly is full, he doesn't have gas and he is warm and snug, he should be happy and asleep! Don't be afraid to start a routine with him now, babies need that!

I wish you lots of luck!!

Are you swaddling? Babies that young need to be swaddled, no matter where they sleep. Wrap 'em up like a burrito! They'll be happy!

I used the sunggle nest for my daughter and put her in bed with me. It worked great for her. My son hated it, so he slept in bed with me.
I love co-sleeping and have never had any problems!

K.,
Congratulations! I had this problem with my son and now with my daughter too. We have the baby papasan (sp) chair and both children have slept there until they were about 3 months old. I swaddle tightly and put the baby in the chair which is partly upright (kind of like a car seat) but very snugly to sleep in. While it is soft, it doesn't have any pillows or anything else that can cause SIDS problems. Both my children have slept well there until they were big enough to sleep soundly in a crib. I swaddled my son in the crib until he was about 6-7 months old too. If you're not comfortable with swaddling VERY tightly, you can buy those "Swaddle Me" blankets that have velcro to make the whole process easier. Best of luck with your new baby boy!

Swaddle him up tight and don't put him down till he's heavily asleep--listen to the breathing. But, he's really young, and used to being right next to you, so really, you holding him is what he wants. You can try a noise machine for when you must put him down, it helps them sleep.

Although we didn't think we would cosleep, we are. My son would wake up as soon as we put him in his crib. I am not worried about getting his to sleep in his crib for at five months, he now takes naps in his crib. We plan to fully transition him to his crib full-time son!

Hi K.!
Congratulations on your new baby boy!
It looks like you've already recevied a lot of great advice from some other Mamasource moms, so I just wanted to pass along a resource that has been very helpful to me, and has encouraged me to keep up my natural & attachment parenting practices. www.mothering.com is a great site that provides great support for natural and attachment parenting. They also have a magazine that is fabulous!
Best wishes! Enjoy your babymoon!
