I'm getting ready to go back to work, amidst a divorce - my question is this...My soon to be ex is a traveling sales rep. gone most of the week. If I land a new job and my daughter ends up sick and requires to be out of daycare for several days, I'm afraid who ever I get employed by is not going to be so forgiving in these economic times and will look at me as not being a dependable employee. What do other single mothers do...I have my mother in town, but she works as well and there are two mornings a week when she's just not available. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks for any input.

I agree with the other moms about a home daycare. My daughter gets sick often, but as long as she doesnt have a high fever her provider will keep her there. She will let her lay on the couch or play a game at the table with her if she isn't feeling very well. She is in Clearwater if you are still looking for a loving home. Good Luck!

i have been running a small in home day care for over 25 years
less kids less sickness and as long as they are not running a fever i keep them.
i just had to stop and think the ones i am watching now have not missed a day in 6 months or more we home day cares are like home and know moms have to work and we try and take care of your child as our own . they are little people not numbers good luck to you wish you the best for you and your little one
Try a state licensed home daycare, they are a little more understanding about keeping a sick child as long as it's just a cold. www.myflorida.com/childcare (look under provider search)

They will get sick but most employers will understand. The sickness lasts about 6 mo's so save up vacation time or perhaps you can work from home.
I have used home daycare and regular with my two, 6 and 2 yr old. I'd go with home daycare at first. They do get less sick and it's an easier transition for them.
The good news is that my kids are rarely sick now. It was just the initial daycare sickness.
Now if your child is always sick it could be a sign of something else. I thought it was just starting daycare. My son had sinus infections for 6 straight months. The ENT wanted to do sinus surgery but my husband said no way and we got another opinion. It's turns out he's just allergic to everything. He takes allergy meds and is no longer sick.
Try to find a home daycare. I never realized how sick young kids get in daycare until I put my son in one. Granted, it's a nice one. People say things like better he builds his immune system now then later but..ugh..he is sick alot in the winter months. He has been attending the same care for just over a year. He is almost 3.5 years old. He is a very healthy child but like everyone said...they will get sick double in daycare.
Just go for it.. You have to just try. I am a single mom of two kids. No help at all. I have a 2 and 12 year old. I am lucky to have been at the same company for 9 years. If my boss was not ok with it then I would find another job. Everything will work out. If this is your first time putting your child into daycare she will more than likely get sick almost for sure for the first year. Hope all works out for you. Keep your head held high.
Could you maybe get her in a small family orientated at home daycare?? Or network and find another mom to watch her?
For example if you had a SAHM watch her, often they will take her if she is sick or not as she is considered part of the family. The rates may be more reasonable than you think because you are also helpng the stay at home mom stay home ; )
Just play it by ear. You will make friends at daycare, so you can help each other out when in a bind.
