A friend of mine hasn't fully had her period yet this month and is starting to freak out. This is her question. I have never heard of this but thought maybe one of you wonderful moms out there might know something
Do you have any idea what the hell a silent period means?!? Long story short, I'm late and the take homes I've taken were both negative...called the doctor, got a nurse to call me back and said that b/c I've been on birth control sometimes you can get a silent period. I've never been late before and it's been freaking me out like crazy. The week before I spotted, which has never happened before either and now nothing...so I don't know what to think and it's driving me crazy since the nurse didn't really seem to ease my worry. Just wondering if you had any idea;) Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the information. She found out that the pharmacy has been giving her the wrong dose for the last 3 months. That might be part of the issue. I relayed the information to her and will let you know the outcome. Thanks again for everything.

A friend of mine who is now pregnant actually took 4-5 pregnancy tests before one was positive, she went to the doctor and they said she was a month further along than she thought. Basically, pregnancy tests aren't always going to have the correct reading. I'd recommend either taking another test, seeing your doctor, or just waiting a month or two to see if you have another period. With my last child, I had a really light almost non-existent period and then missed my next one so that's how I knew I was pregnant.

Good luck and congratulations if you are pregnant! Children are a blessing!

I am not sure which birth control you are on. Many will shorten or completly eliminate your normal period. I am a pharmacist and you may want to check with your pharmacist to see if the brand you are taking is known for this.

I swear they have changed the formula for birth control! This happened to me at the beginning of the year. I thought I was pregnant and actually got a positive result but then spotted two weeks later. I go to the doctor and they tell me that I am not pregnant. I find out at the same time that my son's teacher who recently found out she was pregnant dealt with the same thing about two years ago! Then my brother's wife miscarried and afetr starting on birth control again she went through the same thing! There has also been a couple of other questions on here about missing a period but not being pregnant. I think they changed something in birth control and it's messing up our cycles! All the doctor will tell you is to wait another month or so and see if you have another one.

It sounds like you're either ovulating or your lining is trying to shed. It sounds like your hormones are messed up because of the pill. Many times when you have break through bleeding (due to ovulating), the pill will cause a miscarriage. The pill works in 2 ways 1)to prevent ovulation, but not always 2)or if pregnancy does occur it will prevent implantation of a newly concieved fetus. This is in the literature - I've read it myself.

I recommend you go off the pill. There are too many bad side effects. The pill is NOT good for you - read the literature that comes with it, you might be surprised what it can do to your body!

I'm a registered nurse.

Good Luck!

Very much so can happen. Birth control pills give your body just enough of a hormone to basically trick it into thinking it is pregnant. So some people after being on BC stop getting, or get silent periods. Sometimes for long periods of time. I would consult your dr if you are concerned though. Better safe than sorry but more than likely you are fine.
