I found out I was pregnant on Sept 1 st which was my sons 1st birthday. The first few days where fine and then all of a sudden it started. Everyday I have had morning sickness at 6:30pm like clockwork. I have been so tired I don't want to roll out of bed most days. My fatigue and nausia have been espically hard since my husband leaves for work at 6:30pm and I am the only one home with our son, who is a big ball of energy. I just want to feel normal again. Now to compund the issue I have had allegies the past couple of days. The forst 2 days wheren't that bad, but today I sneezed so much my nose started bleeding. I asked my pharmisist the other day what I could take for alergies and the 2 that where there got in to an argument over if it was benedryl or sudafed that you could take when you where pregnant. I don't want to call my dr over a stuffy nose and fatigue when I have an apt on Mon anyway, but any ideas to get me thru the weekend would be great.

What can I do next?

try chamomile tea, with my 2nd I was sick the entire time, I drank this tea daily, it was the only thing that somewhat helped, finally the dr had to put me on phenergan 3 times a day because I was unable to hold anything down. the phenergan works, the only tricky part is keeping IT down long enough to reep the benefits! I know it is not very popular to prescribe for pregnance related nausea, but at 4.5 months along, I was still not gaining ANY weight.

If you plan on more kids, don't worry-with my 3rd and 4th pregnancies, I didn't have nearly as many nausea issues :)

My OB told me that I could take Benadryl and for morning sickness, saltines and gingerale worked best for me. I know how you feel, when I was pregnant, I got sick like 5 times a day for the first few months. And we lived with my MIL and she and my husband always wanted to "help" but all I really wanted was some privacy while I puked. Try anything with ginger in it, that's why coke works. Good luck!

when i was pregnant with my daughter i was able to take benadryl. though at the same time every doctor is different and has different ideas as to what you can take. but i think that you would be fine with benadryl. hope you feel better soon. (ps is there anyone that can take your son for you for a couple hours once or twice a week? that may help a little)

Talk to your OB, have him prescribe you Zyrtec for allergies, it was produced especially for the use of pregnant people. I have awful allergies, swollen eyes, sneezing myself into nose bleeds, sinus congestion, ect... When you are having allergy symptoms your body is trying to fight those allergens just like it would a cold and germs, which adds to your fatigue. I take the Zyrtec every night before bed (*Zyrtec can make you sleepy so if you take it before bed that eliminates the problem*)you don't take it again until the next night. It has been a lifesaver!!!! Zyrtec is safer than both the sudafed and benedryl, I wouldn't take either while being pregnant, but if you do definitely don't take any that have the D at the end of it, or contain a decongestant. Zyrtec is a one dose in 24hours medicine treating your allergies, the other two do not last nearly that long, so you must take more, and it is only treating your symptoms.(*lol I am also a med student*)

Hi,
So sorry you are feeling under the weather. How unprofessional for a pharmacist to argue with a collegue over a particular drug. They should have looked it up and given you a clear answer. If I am remembering correctly both are fine to take. The sudafed had to be the plain kind without the D. Please don't feel silly about calling your doctor. That is their job and you should not feel bad at all. A stuffy nose the enite weekend is way to long to suffer.

Good Luck!

i totally feel your pain. my daughter will be two at the end of november and i'm pregnant with the second, and experiencing a lot of morning sickness... which was not at all a problem during the first pregnancy. what i've begun doing, is sleeping with a granola bar on my nightstand. i've found that if i eat something small like that before i even get up, it helps, because i think a lot of my nausia comes from low blow sugar... easy to explain if you think about all the extra calories we're spending on number two... all while taking care of number one.

here's to good luck, and a less queasy second tri-mester!

I was told Benadryl and Sudafed were fine when I was pregnant. I took the old style Sudafed - the one you have to get behind the counter though. Good luck!

You can safely take Sudafed when you are pregnant. Try taking one with a couple extra strength Tylenol. That should help.

Hi S., when I was last pregnant my father in law told me to drink a coca cola for the morning sickness. I thought yuck I hate coke but at that time would try about anything and amazingly enough it worked like a charm, no more morning sickness. Hope it helps and sorry dont know about the allergies. L.
