24 Hr. "Morning" Sickness

I am about 7 weeks pregnant and have had severe nausea, 24/7 with fatigue. I was pregnant twice before, but had 2 miscarriages. I was never sick like this before, so maybe it's a good sign. I'm also taking progesterone supplements, which I think can increase the nausea.
Have any of you felt so sick for the entire day? I am trying crackers, gingerale, etc. Not much help. Did you find anything that helped? I'm a little weary of Zofran.

What can I do next?

Vitamin B is also something you can ask your OB about. It helps some women with their nausea, I never tried it! I kept a sleeve of crackers right next to my side of the bed so I could have a few before getting up and walking around. I also ate very small meals every 2 hours or so, I found that always having my stomach working on something really cut out the nausea for me.

M.,

I'm so sorry you're this sick! I unfortunately had the very same issues while pregnant with my son and while the fatigue went away at about the 12-week mark (only to return the third trimester) the nausea was a constant companion the entire pregnancy. None of my suggestions are very original but some were marginally helpful to me. I eliminated all greasy foods from my diet and the house in general. I felt a little sorry for my husband who couldn't cook much of anything for nine months, but at least being able to control the smells in the air at home was helpful. I also kept crackers and juice by the bed so I could eat a little something before I got out of bed and I ate in the middle of the night sometimes because I found a trigger for my nausea was having a completely empty stomach. I took my prenatal vitamins at night because I felt a little less sick then and I drank tons of liquid since I'd learned being dehydrated made me feel even more awful.
Strangely enough I felt the worst after I got up from naps or sleeping and found just copious amounts of fluid made a huge difference.

Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about this though. It sucks to feel rotten all the time, especially when this should be a really joyous, peaceful time for you. If it's any consolation I've always heard "morning sickness" equals strong, healthy staying put babe and it's likely you'll probably wake up one morning and not feel that bone weary fatigue.

Congrats on the pregnancy. Hope all goes well.

You have been given some good things to try, but I just wanted to tell you that I did take Zofran (as well as Phenergan) with both of my pregnancies. I was like you during my first pregnancy. I actually lost weight because I couldn't keep anything down. The Zofran allowed me to function, which was a necessity to fulfilling my job. Phenergan did not help me at all; it just made me sleep for about 3 hours, and I would still get sick. I did my research and talked to my doctor a lot about my concerns of taking meds during pregnancy. She assured me that it was safe to take the Zofran, and it really worked.

Another idea: A friend of mine swears by Sea Bands, which are typically for motion sickness.

Good luck, and I hope that you start feeling better!

It is a good sign and it is heightened by the added progesterone. I would suggest you go ahead and get the zofran. My daughter is 2 and has taken it for nausea when she was sick to allow her to keep food down. That being said, if a 2 year old can take it, it should be fine for you.

I did not take anything when pregnant. It was not offered. The things I found helpful were:

preggy pops (buy at motherhood maternity or babies R us)
sonic ice
fresh squeezed lemonade with a little salt
1 Tbsp honey mixed with 1 tsp ginger
Boost nutritional beverages

I was better off drinking my calories than trying to chew things. Even the motion of chewing made me sick.

I miscarried 6 times before we found out what would allow me to maintain the pregnancy with my daughter. So, my heart is with you and my prayers.

I also took progestrone with both my pregnancies, but only got sick with my son. The only thing that helped was the Phenergan the doctor prescribed at around 9 weeks because I was loosing weight. I know you understand it is really hard to eat when you feel so bad. It is a class C drug so I just used it when I really couldn't take it anymore. I think the turning point was around 14 weeks, but I still continued to have morning sickness througout my entire pregnancy, but not as bad. Good news it should pass in a few weeks :). Congrats!

It is a GREAT sign that you are sick actually. I know you dont want to be, but just know it means the baby is still growing and causing this for you. I understand exactly where you are coming from with the constant nausea. I also feel for you not wanting to take the Zofran, but you have to get nutrients to the baby, so it is the lesser of two "evil" per se. I have taken it with all 5, and they are perfectly healthy! Sonic ice is a god sent, just tell your hubby to bring some home EVERYDAY!! Also, phenergen also made me crazy tired, and I still threw up, so I would not recommend that one. I also agree that lemonade helped, and esp. if it was one of those frozen kind...hmmm! Try popsicles too. And finally, the worst thing I ate, but it was the ONLY thing I never threw up in all 5 pregnancies..McDonalds french fries and a coke. I know, terrible, but it made a difference. Sometimes it is all you can do. Good luck, I know it is hard, but every time you are sick, just know that is your sweet baby letting you know that he/she is still there:) ~A.~
