Hi! I have to think it would be very frustrating for her to have to watch and not play. While she's out of commission can she hang with a friend or stay home alone? I'd get the family passes though, no need for everyone to feel bad.

Have you asked her what she thinks and how she feels about it? It doesn't matter what we think, honestly. She is old enough to help with the decision. :-)

I am sorry, but it is plain rude to expect her to just sit there while you all have fun at the water park. Wait until she is able to partake in the fun with the family. I have had many casts and would have felt completely heartbroken if my family was inconsiderate enough to bring me to a water park only to sit down, listen to my ipod and get a horrid farmer's tan.

Ultra unfair to her. If it comes off at the end of june., either wait until then to go, or taked turns staying with her while everyone else goes. You two can go to a movie or something... End of jun e is not a long way away!

she's 14. She should be able to tell you what she wants to do.
Her cast comes off WAY before summer is over.

I personally would buy the season pass and ask her what she wants to do.

Does she have to have the cast all summer or will this only affect her a few times you all want to go?

If it's going to go on all summer, I think I would probably take turns with one of the parents going with the other kids to the water park and the other parent taking the 14 y/o to do something else fun, like a movie or to hang with her friend or something. It just doesn't seem very fair to me to have to have her tag along and not get to do any of the fun stuff! If it's only once, then yeah maybe, but I think a compromise is in order.

I would say leave her at home or at a friend's house for the day while you all go to the water park (sitting in a hot crowded water park all day sounds incredibly boring.) After June 29 she can join you for the rest of the summer.

I would think she would rather go to a movie or do something else while you all go to the water park..

Maybe find a teen that drives to go with her to a movie or hang out with her on these days.

Our daughter would have been fine alone watching movies at home, talking on the phone or being on the computer.

When we go we are there for at least 5 hours at a time. That is a very long time to just sit and watch everyone else enjoy all of that water.

OH my goodness, she will be SOO hot here with a cast on. I had an arm cast, and I just about died. If she can't get in the water, she will not be comfortable in the heat. Even without a cast, she will be too hot. That's only the end of this month, and the parks stay open until Labor day. Go without her, and make sure your family also does something SHE wants to do as well. But, have someone take turns staying with her, so you can do something fun, or she can invite a friend over. She is 14, if she wouldn't get her feelings hurt, she is also plenty old enough to stay home alone. Although, I'm not sure if that's the most fair solution.

I say get the passes if you will go a few times post-June 29. For now, I wouldn't take her with you. It will be hot sitting outdoors with that on her, and the temptation will be great. Not to mention, accidents from other folks splashing on her, dripping on her and possibly stepping in puddles.
Water parks are not known for being the most sanitary places, so why make her just sit there?
Let her sit in the a/c at home in comfort until the cast comes off. Surely at 14, she would be ok with that? My son would. He has a cast on his hand/wrist that comes off this coming week. We have been holding off on going to Summer Waves, because he can't get it wet. We have season passes. Bought then last fall. And if it was something I was looking forward to doing, I would take my daughter and leave him home with no problems. But I don't really enjoy it that much. They have more fun together. So we are waiting on his hand. It's just a few more days! :)

Get the family passes, and then find out what she likes to do and can do with the cast and find ways to make THAT happen when the family is doing the water park. I would also make a point of doing family things that include her and are not water-park related so she doesn't feel left out of family activities. The teen years are tough and you want to minimize the potential for hurt feelings. Perhaps include her in planning her special activities for the water days so she has some control, since she can't control her injury recovery.

Buy the passes, she is 14 I would leave her at home(get her some movies, magazines or something) or take her to a friend's house. She can join you after June, but I would still bring the rest of the family to the park till then, why should everyone else be bored at home too?

I'd get the tickets and let daughter stay at a friends house or something on the days you go before her cast comes off. She shouldnt have to sit and suffer while everyone is playing around her, nor should the rest of the family suffer while waiting on her cast removal.

Can you call the doc and find out if she can have a waterproof cast instead? Just a thought. I thought all Ortho docs used the waterproof stuff now. All the ones in my area do, and we're in a smallish town a few miles away from civilization.

Otherwise how about leaving her with a friend and letting her have some fun without the family? She can do other stuff during this time too. She can also go and just not put that foot in the water. I would not bring any sort of electronics because they will invariably get wet and perhaps ruined. Not even through carelessness, it could be that someone accidentally spills something at the next table and it goes everywhere.

personally I'd wait till the cast comes off then everyone can go and have fun. It seems kinda mean to me to buy something you KNOW she can't participate in.

I would be EXTREMELY hurt if someone did this to me.

Think about how you would feel if YOU were the one with a cast and couldn't participate in a super fun activity and had to either sit around at the activity or STAY HOME while everyone else went and had fun.

Just wait to get the season passes and go. It'll be more fun for everyone that way.
