L-Lysine- dosage on the bottle- being it is a herpes virus.

That really helped me the 2nd time I had it. (first time antivirals were not available- 30 yr ago)

Aveeno baths

calamine lotion- looks funny but works.

I've got them now, not painful but extremely itchy. Dr. gave me a medrol dose pack (prednisone) & that helped with the itching. I've upped my intake of zinc, fish oil, vitamin C, vitamin B3, and vitamin A - all good for immune system &/or skin issues. I read a study that patients taking cimetedine (tagamet, OTC) shortened the period of infection. I've been taking cimetedine as well. With all that, I've had them for a week and they are 75% better; itching is tolerable, very little pain at all. Oh, and I went swimming in my in-law's salt water pool, didn't do anything for them. Good luck!

My mom had them and tea tree oil seemed to help. I would also take any kind of oatmeal bath you have. Aveeno is good. Can you take benedryll? I would take some of them before you go to bed so you can sleep. Do not itch them or pick at them or you will have scars. I am sorry for your itchiness.

Someone gave me the recommendation for soaking in a pool or better yet in the salt water in the gulf. I didn't get a chance to try it, but it sounds like it would work. Good Luck

Shingles are caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. An anti viral might help, but an antibiotic won't. The oatmeal bath might help with the itching. It's hard to get through, but it won't last forever.

I would try Apple Cider Vinegar applied with a cotton ball. My Mom had these 3 years ago and this helped. I have also read that aloe helps as well as benedryl cream.

For itch take Benadryl (over the counter) or if its really bad get Atarax (need prescription) That little pill is amazing, will take the itch completely away.

My daughter gets these. Valtrex will dry them up sooner, but hers never itched. She had horrible pain and required narcotics. If they start to hurt, call your doctor and request pain meds. You need to stay ahead of the pain to keep control of it.

I had them four years ago. All I remember is the PAIN...the stabbing pain. Don't stratch if you can avoid it.

When I had an issue with itchy skin I would lay on ice packs...it really works well.

Don't get out in the heat until the sores are completely healed. Try not to get overly tired. Avoid stress as much as possible. I had them four years ago, and I still cannot take the heat as I once did. Of course, that might have something to do with age and not shingles - just turned 66!

Use a product called, "Soverign Silver"- buy the spray and the dropper bottles. Spray all your sores FREQUENTLY and use the dropper for internal use according to the directions. My husband got the worst case of chicken pox I've ever seen in my life at 50 years old and he used this product and it healed up really well, and he didn't even get one scar. Soverign silver is a natural antiviral. Don't use other brands. They don't work the same. Good luck

No sugar, no pop, no white flour, all these decrease your immune systems ability to handle the virus. In an awful way shingles is good because it tells you that your immune system is in very bad shape- used to be that only the elderly got shingles- but now with our declining food like artifical products the immune system is declining earlier. So take this as your wake up call- check Weston Price for ideal food intake, and take this opportunity to handle your immune system, and do that for your family as well.

I've had shingles twice and they were never itchy (just very painful), but I'm sure Benadryl or hydrocortisone cream will help calm the itchiness. Antibiotics will not help. You can take an antiviral, but it will only help if you start it on the first day or two of your breakout. Otherwise you just have to let it run it's course! Hang in there and TRY not to scratch!!

Shingles is a virus that only attacks those with weak immune systems. The key to getting rid of it for good is to boost the immune system to work at it's optimum.

A good absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex will help. I can recommend a guaranteed one if you like. I have recommended it to several people during shingles and it has cleared it up.

Good nutrition....avoid processed and fast foods.

Detoxing around you....your house and your body will build your immune system. If the body is not fighting the synthetic chemicals then it has the strength to fight the virus.

Chiropractic care, specifically upper cervical care. The body works best when the sum of all it's parts are working together.

High grade Tea tree oil will help topically because it is an antiviral. It also absorbs deep and gets to the root of the problem. Ice, as mentioned also, actually slows the growth of the virus and will alleviate some symptoms too. The biggest issue is your immune system. Let me know if you'd like more information. I'd be happy to help.
