Seeking Playgroups or Volunteer Activities

I am looking for a playgroup or volunteer activity, in the Fair Oaks or surrounding area, for my two year old son and I do to together. I am a stay at home mom and college student, so my son and I are at home all the time. My son does not go to daycare, therefore, he does not get much socializing with other kids, besides the park, and I take on-line classes so I can stay home with him. I would like to find something to get us both out of he house. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I would suggest getting very involved in your local church. I am a SAHM and I homeschool. My boys get tons of social interaction at church. We attend service several days a week, we also volunteer in most of the activities. My church has a carwash every Sat, also lots of opportunities to clean, watch kids for others, and help with events. My boys have developed great friendships with like-minded believers. I couldn't ask for anything more. :-)

The Fair Oaks library has play days/story time/art activities for toddlers every Tuesday at 11am through July. I'm not sure about the schedule for August and beyond, but you can contact them for more information.
Fair Oaks has a MOMS club which you can find online. I talked to the membership chairperson and almost joined, but got busy and involved in other things.
You might want to check out Mothers Support Network on Avalon Dr. in Carmichael. They have a website with a calendar of events. They also need volunteers.
Meetup.com has several mommies groups in the area and are worth checking out.
If you want some last minute socializing you can go to the Roseville Galleria play area in front of Sears. It seems safer than the Sunrise mall play area and more age appropriate for toddlers.
By the way, I'll be at the Fair Oaks Library with my son this Tuesday at 11 am. I have met some very nice moms and children there and the librarians are great with the little ones. I hope to see you there. Be well.

Have you tried MOMSCLUB ? I personally don't belong to a group because they don't allow single moms ( which I am not, I just don't believe in that discrimation) but they have weekly playdates hosted at different members houses and a once a month moms night out- no kids.... even though I don't like them it may be a great fit for you =)

I used to belong to the MOMS Club of Laguna when I lived in Elk Grove. I didn't have any experience with them discriminating against single moms so am not certain that this is the same group another respondant referred to. The group I belonged to welcomed everyone. They organized playgroups, park days, field trips and parties as well as Mom's night out. It was a blessing to me as I met wonderful women and my children made great friends. We also did fundraisers and were involved in community service projects. They have chapters all over the Sacramento area so I would think there is one near you. They have a website but I am not sure of the exact web address. You might want to google MOMS Club and see if that works for you. Good luck!
