My daughter is 22 months old and in need of a friend. We don't know any kids her age in the area. We are new to Houston, and living in Garden Oaks area.

What can I do next?

Hi K.! I belong to a group called HeightsKids, and it sounds like it would be exactly what you're looking for. Everyone who joins belongs to the main group, and we have a bigtent group (kind of like a yahoo group) page where people can post questions and information that is of general interest to the entire group (information about schools, crime, etc.). It's kind of like mamasource, but specific to the Heights/Garden Oaks area. You also have the option to join sub-groups. There are sub-groups for many different interests (politics, book clubs, expectant mothers), but, most importantly for you, there are playgroups for specific age-ranges. These groups usually meet once a week (I think...sorry, my son is 4, so we haven't gone to playgroup in a while) at someone's house or at a park. It's a great way for you and your baby to meet some new friends. Plus, the group is an incredible resource of information. I think you'll find a lot of like-minded members there. I think we even have at least two other yoga instructors! (FYI, We aren't the Attachment Parenting group that someone else posted about, but there are definitely a lot of AP-friendly families.). In addition to the sub-groups, there are also options for Mother's Nights Out (monthly), a babysitting co-op, dinner drops for families with new babies, etc.
If you're interested in joining, just send me a message. It's kind of a long explanation, and I've already gone on and on as it is!

My daughter is 22 months old also. We live in the Heights. I am a stay at home mom to my 10 month old son and my daughter goes to a friend's house with other little girls her age. If you are interested in setting up a play date please message me. My daughter has friends I could put you in touch with as well. Most of those moms are working mothers so day time play dates aren't possible.

I live in Garden Oaks and have a 12 month old.

I know we have a mom's club but I have not looked into it. I am working mom so I feel that I am always on the go. If you have gotten the Garden Oaks Gazette there should be a number.

If not, I will look for it when I get home and send you the number. Maybe, I will call too.

Hi! I live in Sugar Land, but I believe there is a group in that area that's for attachment parenting-style families, which it sounds like you'd fit into well. Are you familiar with mothering.com? Check their discussion boards for the "Finding Your Tribe" area, then navigate to the Texas board. If you post there, I know one of the mamas who leads that group will tell you how to get involved. :)

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I do think that would be a great group for you to try!
