Seeking Pediatric ENT in Frisco

Hello - new mom here - my little exclusively-breastfed boy is 3.5 months old - he was diagnosed w/Broncholitis, a form of RSV, about 2 weeks ago. He still has a lingering cough that some days sounds wet and bronchial, and other days is very dry and hacking. His pediatrician has seen him 3 times in the last couple of weeks, but indicates there is nothing to be done about the cough outside of what we are already doing (humidifier in room, saline drops, steamy shower in bathroom). Both my mom and grandma have indicated I should take him to a pediatric ENT, so I'd like to find a good one in Frisco. Luckily, he isn't running any fever and doesn't have any other symptoms, but the coughing wakes him up at night - his whole little body shakes with it, and he hacks up phlegm but immediately swallows it - it scares me to death at night that he might choke on it. Any recommendations for an ENT would be so welcomed - I'm ready to get my little guy on the road to recovery! Thanks so much.

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies. The majority of you recommended Dr Mehendale, so I followed your advice. Unfortunately, there is nothing more that Dr Mehendale can do for my little guy (he said RSV just has to run it's course), but he was truly wonderful and I will use him again ANYTIME I need an ENT. Thanks for the great recommendation!

We see Gretchen Champion MD in Allen and I really like her. My son is getting tubes soon and she's doing them. Her office is located at Presby Allen Hospital.

I highly recommend Dr. Dale Ehmer of ENT Frisco. His address/number is 4401 Coit Rd # 411, Frisco - ###-###-####

He's done my kids tubes / ENT surgeries and has two little ones himself.

Tell him C. & John sent you! He's super! Of course, he's in the same offics as Dr. Mehendale & McDuffie, so you can't go wrong with that number!

I will put in another vote for Dr. Mehendale. He treats my 8 year old son and my infant daughter, both with the greatest care and concern.

You might want to see a pediatric pulmonologist since the problem is in his lungs. My grandbabies were born 12 weeks early and had to get RSV shots and have their lungs checked. They live in Arlington so they went to a doctor in Fort Worth. I've seen an office in Frisco called KidLungs, but don't have any experience with them. Good luck with your little one.

Hey cindy, I have no ent recommendations, but, you doc is most likely right. My son had rsv over the holidays, he was fine after 3 days (no fever), but the cough lasted almost 3 weeks. My doc said it could last up to 6.

Good luck.

Hi C.,

My baby boy, also 3 1/2 mos., spent 5 days in Children's last week with RSV. I took him for the follow up visit Monday and both the Dr. at the hospital and the pediatrician said the cough could hang on for up to 4 weeks. My son also wakes up couging at night and it does sound terrible, but both docs said that's what they need to do to get the phlegm out of their little bodies. He also seems to cough more during feedings. Did your son have deep suction done to help with the mucus? If not that may be why it's taking so long for the cough to clear. If you see the ENT I would love to hear what he has to say. Best wishes to you and your baby boy!

Hi there, I use Southwest ENT in Plano at Plano Presby Hospital and love them. They are treating my 2 yr old with a rare thing and have been fantastic. I see Dr Gamble there but there are 2 other doctors that are great as well.
Good luck, I know that can be so frightening and frustrating because you just want them to be better. Take Care

Dr. Mehendale is the best!! A few of my friends went to him and loved him as well. His office staff is great and he is very diligent. My twins had tubes in their ears when they were 1.5. I was terrified and his staff was amazing and so was Centennial. Their surgical center was great with my children and us parents. They even called a couple times after the surgery, along with the doctor, to see if everything was alright. I just can't say enough.

Have you been giving your son breathing treatments. My son had a similar thing when he was a couple of months old, and the breathing treatments really helped. Even today, when either one of my twins (now 3) get a bad cough, i stick them on the machine and in a day or so they're fine. Just a thought.

My son had his tonsils and adenoids removed last summer when he was only 21 months. Our ENT was awesome! We used Dr. Chad McDuffie with ENT Associates of Texas. They have an office in Frisco at Centennial Medical and also one in McKinney off Eldorado. You can reach the Frisco office at ###-###-####.
