Best Medicine for 6 Month Old

My 6 month old has a runny nose and a cough for the third time this year. The first and second time I took her to the pediatrician she told me to give her saline drops and let it run its course. A lot of old school moms are saying no, give her Benadryl or Castor oil. What is best?

Should I Change My Pediatrician?

Should I change my pediatrician? We've been seeing the same doctor on a referral since my son was born 5 months ago. I had never met her until we were in the hospital and she was making her rounds. There are a couple of things I'm concerned about. First, she rushes through the visit and, though I'm sure she would answer any questions I have, she doesn't seem to want to spend the time. The second thing is that my son had what I considered serious congestion this past fall. I took him to the doctor and she suggested trying sailene...

Stuffy Nose - 15 Week Old Infant

Hi Moms, My 15 week old son has a persistant stuffy nose without any other symptoms. I have treated him with saline drops, ran a humidifier at in his room and have recently started using Vicks Baby Rub first thing in the morning and last thing before I put him to bed. Any other suggestions for soothing his poor little nose? Thanks!

Air Too Dry Even with Humidifiers, Any Ideas to Help?

Hi helpful mamas :) I was wondering if any of you out there are having the same issue as me and how you solved it. With the coming of cold weather we now have our gas furnace on. We have a large humidifier running in the living room, and a small cool-mist humidifier in my bedroom and one in my daughter's room. I run the big humidifier 24-7 and the smaller ones each night. But in the middle of the night I always awaken with a terribly dry mouth and either have to get up and drink water, or if I'm too sleepy I just drift in and out of...

Cold/Congestion In Newborn

I am a first time mome of an 11 week old beautiful baby girl. She is in daycare part time (3 days) and has a little cough/congestion. She has no fever and is seemingly feeling okay. I called the doc and they said I don't need to bring her in unless she has a fever or stops eating. They suggested a humidifier and saline drops. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good humidifier. I got a Vick's one but the water seems to run out quickly. Also, they suggested that rectally was the only accurate way to test her temperature...any good...

What's the Problem with My Newborn??

I'm new to the mom thing, this is my first baby she is 4 weeks old. She has had really bad congestion tons of mucos in the back of her throat that started a couple of weeks ago. Nights are miserable with her trying to sleep and breathe from all the mucos. I took her to her doctor, she didn't have any answers other than she has a little cold and is fine? A cold for over 2 weeks now?? We have tried the saline drops, a humidifier, standing in a steamy bathroom, everything! NOTHING is working. She coughs, gags and chokes when she has her...

My 2 1/2 Week Old Is Has a Cold!!! I Need Help!!

Hello everyone, I have a 2 1/2 week old baby boy that unfortunaly got a cold from us. The whole family got a cold...our symptoms are stuffy and some of us runny nose (thick), headache (pressure), throat pain. And since last night I think my newborn got it. I can sense it when he breaths like he is congested somehow. He doesn't have a fever, diarrhea and he eats fine but slowly like he has mucus in his throat. You know! And of course the weekend and no doctors open. Can anyone recommend me what is the best thing to do since he is so little?...

Natural Remedies for Cough/congestion??

What do you do for a child who has congestion...how do you get that congestion moving out??? I have a 10 month old and a 3 year old and that junk is in there just not moving very much. They both feel fine...well, the little one has a slight fever as of this morning. He had a hoarse cough starting this early morning. They aren't miserable-I am!! Seeing them sick. Anyone have any 'natural' remedies I can try to get that stuff moving? Or do I just leave it alone and let it work itself out?

Sick Baby :(

Hi fellow moms- I have a beautiful 9month old who has been sick with a cold for the past six days. It started with a runny stuffy nose and has now progressed to this horrible cough that sounds like it's trying to break up phlem in her chest. In addition, she has a slight temp of 101 (rectal). Of course, she is also teething on top of everything else. Because of this violent cough, she's really not sleeping and moans after a bout of coughing, which tells me that her chest throat are probably hurting her. Also, she hasn't been able to...

Taking Medication While Breastfeeding

Hey everyone! It's been windy here the past couple of days and today I woke up sneezing, runny nose and watery eyed. So far I've been coping with my allergies patiently, but it's getting to the point where my nose is getting raw and I randomly spook my daughter with surprise sneezes. So here's the question, is it safe to take allergy medication while I'm breastfeeding? Something like an antihistamines or children’s Benedryl? I haven't done so yet for the sake of my sweetie's milk, but if it won't affect her and provide me some relief.....

What Could Be Causing 10-Month Old to Have Congestion/runny Nose So Often?

My almost 10 month old son has yet ANOTHER round of congestion/runny nose. I would say about 60-70% of the time since he was born he's had this congestion/runny nose thing. He's been sick more often than well! The doc said it was normal for babies to have colds/allergies this often, and it tapers down after they turn 2 yrs of age. She said it was impossible to even tell if it was upper respitory infection (cold) or allergy, but probably was a cold, cause he doesn't have itchy watery eyes. He doesn't go to daycare, we don't even go out much,...

I have a 7 month old daughter and a 3 year old daughter that are both sick. I'm more concerned about my baby because she can't take medicine like my 3 year old can. She is so stuffed up, can hardly breathe, stopped wanting to eat baby food, only will be nursed but not as often as usual, lost a little weight, only wants to be held by mom, not wanting to play, has a very bad cough, just lost her voice today, and doesn't want to sleep but when she does not for long. I keep cleaning her nose by using drops and then use a sucker to clean it out...
