I would love to find other mom's in the Mohawk Valley that also have children with SPD or similar learning disabilities. I have a 4 year old going on 5 in February and would love to connect to other mom's that are in my same situation to support each other and to exchange information.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just an update: I have an appt with a Psychologist tomorrow in Utica. It is very hard to find one in my area that will deal with clients as young as my son. After tomorrow I will let you know what I find out. The first appt will be with just Dr. Smith and myself. I would like to get an offical diagnosis for my son so that we can get more help for him and try to figure out why is so aggressive at school. Thanks all for responding and I would love to keep in touch with everyone.
J.

J.,
My name is R., I do not have a child of my own with SPD but my Sister does. Her son is 3 years old. Could you tell me more about the behavioral problems? I would like to make sure we are talking about the same thing. Her son too is in a local Boces preschool program. I think we may be able to give you some ideas.
I look forward to your response.
R.

Hi, J.!

My son, Kevin, has some sensory issues although they are not severe enough for him to receive services. I am currently working with him at home to address his sensory needs and to combat his defensiveness to certain clothing. He also periodicaly sees an OT who is a friend of mine who is helping us out! Kevin is going to be 3 in April and we are hoping to get him into an early intervention class as a peer for the fall. By he way, my name is Jen & I am in central Ct. I'd love to keep in touch!

I think my son has SPD but it hasn't been diagnosed he goes to a preschool in Lackawana NY that has a great program for kids with speech and OT problems but he's still having trouble. His coordinator suggested we try to get him into a developmental Pediatrician but our insurance won't pay for it and it's $1300 for the initial visit which I just can't afford. He has problems with the noise and being in large groups. He tends to play by himself and doesn't like playing with the other kids much, he also complains his ears hurt when they sing or play the radio. His OT uses a weighted vest and were going to try a technique of brushing starting next week. They have recommended him for the tomatis program at baker victory but i know he won't put head phones on. It just seems like there is no good schools around this area for him. i have trouble figuring out whats best for him and where he should go to school its very confusing
