Have you seen the TV show "17 kids and counting..?"
Well, I am SO impressed with the way the Duggar family raises their children to honor God, cheerfully do their chores, respect each other, talk to each other in a soft toned voice, have individual talents that express themselves. They are homeschooled, so I know that everything they have learned was taught by their parents. I admire the way the family saves money has family bible time together, makes healthy eating choices etc. etc. etc.
I am so impressed and would like to if you know of any familes that raise their children like that! I have read "To Train up a child" by Mike and Debi Pearl and I LOVED it! I would love to meet any moms that raise their kids like Mike and Debi Pearl. I would love to befriend a mom similar to this description and LEARN from her. I am in NO WAY similar to any of this I described except we LOVE the Lord and live to honor him. I am just a young mom (30yr) of 2 small children who desires to raise my children different from the generation & culture I am surrounded by.
Email me back with any info you have..... God Bless.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses and they are all well received. However, I think I may have given the wrong impression in my request. I am looking for women who can teach me ways from the "old days" such as, planting a vegetable garden, making recipes from scratch, sewing, using natural herbs, etc. Please forgive me for not being clear in my request.

D.,

I have two boys 5 and 3, and like you I want to raise them to honor God, respect others and be morally responsible. We are doing a Bible study at church called "Growing Kids God's Way". We are already a little ways into the book (with the same title), we took a break over the holidays and are going to start meeting again on Mondays at 7:00 at Celebration Covenant Church in Frisco. If you want more info go to http://www.celebrationcovenant.com or email ____@____.com that helps,
A.

Your objectives are wonderful. As you aspire toward them please do not compare yourself to the family on television. Remember - they are on television, and of course know they have cameras on all the time. This is a great opportunity for them to make money (which with 17 kids . . . need I say more?), so they are going to be on their best behavior. That is not to say anything negative about that family - but they are human, so in reality, their family may not present like that if they did not always need to be "on."
Good luck -- your family will certainly benefit from your efforts.

D. J,
I am one of those "old fashioned moms" in a modern society (but I like to think of myself as modern!! My daughter is now 26 and happily married and has recently celebrated her first anniversary. I would love the opportunity to share anything that you would want to know. I am hungry to share what the Lord has taught me all these years. How refreshing in this day and time to hear that there are young women and men out there that desire to raise their children up as unto the Lord like it says in the Scripture, when you sit, when you lie down, when you walk, etc. There is never a time when little eyes and ears are not watching and listening to you. You are always forever a model of what a godly mom and dad are supposed to be. This is where they learn, in turn, to be that for their future spouses and children. I would love to share more but I must get ready to leave in a minute. But feel free to email me any time and we can email back and forth if you wish. Nothing is off limits with me! I think you have cheered me up today. I am encouraged by your hunger and thirst to do God's will. In Him, KAM

I was excited to see your posting and the responses you have already gotten. Sometimes it seems we stand alone as Christian moms against an evil world, but we are never truly alone. I am glad that you dared to reach out.

My three children are grown. One son and his four children live with my husband and I. His three teenagers have lived with us for ten years now. Our household is not perfect, we are all very human, but the Lord has first place in our hearts and our Bibles are all well-worn.

Please feel free to contact me. Before my health took a downturn I worked in a Christian counseling center. I still do some telephone counseling and have coordinated an international email prayer group.

The churches mentioned in some of the posts have excellent groups.

My husband and I have been married for 42 years, through good times and bad, sickness and health. He is still my best friend.

I would love to be your friend. I am a mom of three we adopted from Russian orphanages. My daughter (13) in the only one still at home now. Oh, what I would give to have had them since they were born and been able to teach them during those early years! How blessed you are. I have learned so much over the last few years. I would be happy to share with you and support your desire to do it right the first time. I have lots of good resources for you. My husband and I are now starting a missions program in Easter Europe to train pastors. I will be working with the wives of those pastors to minister to the women of the churches. I've had experience in both public school and been active in the homeschool community, so I can share some perspective on both. My sweet daughter has transformed from a hurt, troubled child into a pearl of great price. We are greatly blessed! We live in Corinth - just South of Denton off I-35.
