Seeking OB Referrals in Hoag System

Hello everyone,

My first pregnancy was great because my family doctor was also my OB. He is now no longer delivering babies and I am forced to find a new OB. I was referred to Dr. Barber, but my first experience with him was not so great and I would prefer not to go see him a second time.

I would appreciate any feedback on OB's in the Hoag system or Newport Physicians IPA.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your wonderful words of wisdom. I asked my family doctor about Dr. Ricci and unfortunately he said that he knows of some people who have fallen through the cracks. But, not because she isn't an excellent doctor. One of his referrals was Dr. Clayton, so I decided to go with Irene's referral and choose Dr. Clayton. I just saw him the other day and was very pleased with my choice. He is a gentle, caring doctor and very thorough. I am looking forward to getting to know him better. Thank you all again for your advice!

Three of my friends used Dr. Strachan at Doctors Office For Women in Irvine. All three loved and highly recommend her. I think her first name is Patricia. She's definitely affiliated with Hoag.

This is a great thread as I am need of a new OB also. Sadly, I have an HMO and Dr. Strachan isn't accepting new HMO patients right now.

Hi A.,

I don't know any OB offhand who you should go to, but I will tell you from my first pregnancy experience who NOT to go to. I had been given a referral to go to a Dr. Ricci. One of her offices is in a building across from Hoag. She was so busy with other patients, that most of the time I had to wait at least 45 minutes just to get into the room then a bit longer to see a doctor (or in my case a Nurse Practioner which I saw for the majority of my pregnancy since my doctor was so busy). One time at 7 months along, I had to pick something up and she came and stood right next to me. She acted like I was a stranger, didn't even say hi. To me, the person who is delivering my baby should at least have knowledge of who I am. I found a site that might be helpful to you. DoctorScoreCard.com I hope it helps!

My OB is in the same office as Dr. Strachan (mentioned below). Her name is Dr. Deborah Grouse. I didn't have her for my first pregnancy, but I'm 7 months pregnant now with my second and she's been great throughout this pregnancy.

I'll mention another that I would NOT recommend (based on my experience) and that is Dr. Tanya Maralle (sp?). She had one of the worst bedside manners I've experienced, was very rude and rushed and told me that if I wanted to have children I'd "better get on it" (I was 35 at the time).

Good luck!

I work at Hoag and when I was pregnant in 2007 I asked around and heard the same thing about Dr. Ricci. I have Dr. Gigi Kroll and she is amazing but I don't know is she takes the IPA? You could call the 7th floor and ask one of the nurses at the desk who they recommend?

My son was born back in 2005 and I loved my doctor Patricia Korber she has two offices one in HB and the other is across the street from Hoag. Not sure if she is still around but she was great. ###-###-#### HB or ###-###-#### Newport.

Hi...yeah, I love it when people ask this question. My OB/Gyn is THE ABSOLUTE BEST... his name is Dr. Weatherford Clayton. He is the most kind and sensitive doctor ever. Try him out you will NOT be disappointed. I promise. :)

A.,
You need to check out Dr. Flora and Dr. White they are with the Greater Newport system and Hoag Hospital. I myself did not have them due to pregnancy issues, but for other female complications. They have a great staff and I felt very comfortable with everybody there. If either one of them is not available I'm positive anyone else on the staff there will be great. Here is there number.###-###-####. Good Luck

I love my OB! Dr. Feldman is in the same office as dr. ricci, but its a world of difference. I've never waited longer than 10 minutes to see him. I've been in and out of there and seen the same patients waiting in the waiting room. He treats many of the nurses from Hoag and came recommended from my SIL's mother, who was an OB nurse for 30 years. I know how important it is to find a dr that you like and trust. Good luck!
