Hi all,

Does anyone know of any 'new moms' groups or infant moms groups in the dallas area? We are in Carrollton. I've looked online but can't seem to find anything. I hail from Maryland and am a homemaker, so I haven't had many opportunities to meet new people. I've tried my church and they have a huge selection of small groups to join, but none of what I'm looking for. Please help! ;-P

Thanks alot!

~ M.

So What Happened?

First off, I'd liie to thank everyone for their wonderful advice. It was much appreciated!

Well, sad to say, I still haven't joined a moms group. It's really frustrating because I really need the advice, friendship, and understanding that a mom's group can offer. The real issue is a touchy matter and is very disconcerting.
I'm an African-American SAHM who is married to a Caucasian man. Naturally, our son is Bi-racial. To me this is as normal as peanut butter and jelly, but some of the attitudes we have encoutered recently here in Dallas beg to differ. Born and raised in cosmopolitan Maryland, race has never been an issue with me, but already my family has faced some racial "tension". So I've been hesitant to join any new groups because of what my child and I may have to face. ;-(

I did look into the MOMS Club, but there is no chapter available to me as they only accept people within certain zip codes. I was hoping I'd have made some friends here by now and my son could have his first play date. Hopefully, that will happen soon. ;-)

Thanks again!

~ Chel

I joined the new mom's group through Plano Presbetryn (sp) hospital. Go to their website and search through there classes and you will find a new mom's group. It was a LIFE SAVER! I met wonderful woman that are some of my closest friends now through the group!

Good Luck!

I have exactly what you are looking for: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarrolltonMoms/ Please join us. You are more than welcome to start coming to our playgroups even before you have your baby to get to know us. Most of us have 1 year olds, but some of us are starting to have baby #2 so there will be kids the same age as yours.

Hi M.,

I don't know of any 'new mom' groups around here. I just signed up on here last night =) Like you, I am a stay at home mom and a new mom to an 11 week old baby. I've lived in the Dallas area for 9 years, originally from Alabama. I'm married to a wonderful man who is a Dallas firefighter/paramedic. We just bought a new home in Little Elm (not far from where you are). I'm 33 yrs. old and a social work major at TWU. Since I had my little munchkin, it's been hard trying to find people that I can relate with. My closest friends (here locally) do not have children, and it seems they have kind of disappeared. It's really strange how that happens. Also, I'm not a member of a church here, as I can't quite figure out what religion, etc. I "get"...if you know what I mean. Although I definitely consider myself a christian and believe in God of course.

Anyway...enough of me, I bet you are VERY excited! You will be a mommy very soon!!! I was mortified at the thought of labor too and unfortunately did not have a good experience (don't want to scare you). HOWEVER, everyone's labor is different. Your's may be great, even if not...you'll be just fine ;) If you have questions, BELIEVE ME, I can help (with what little I know so far anyway) =) Here's myspace page and email info if you'd like to get in touch:

Carrollton Early Childhood PTA is another great option. The playgroups are arranged by age so your little one will be with kids his age. www.cecpta.org

Try 'setonmothersandothers.org' meets 2nd Tue each month, for mothers of Christian based faith- not a super-religious group. has activities/events for moms only, for mom & tot outings and for entire family. activities run year-round.
