I am fortunate enough that my husband can stay with them most of the time. When that is not an option they stay with grandparents or close friends who have time to keep them for me.

I understand needing to work, but with a sick child when you take them around other children or people they run a very high risk of getting others sick. It is my opionion that you either stay at home or get a relitive or friend to sit for you. Your family and there well-being is the most important thing of all.
I know first hand where your coming from. I have one daughter and both my husband and myself work.

I'm with Linda M. on this one. If your child is sick and can't go to daycare or school, you need to be home with them. If the boss has a problem with it. Oh well!
My husband and I take turns staying home if the kids are sick. Luckily I can make my own schedule. But I schedule ahead of time, so usually having a sick kid at home is unexpected. If I have jobs that I can't reschedule, my husband will call in letting the boss know the kids are sick. They never give him any trouble about it. Neither did the companies I used to work for when my kids were sick. Generally daycares and schools won't take kids if they are sick. They need to be home in bed or at the doctor.

I'm a SAHM so I don't have your problem in that I'm always here but my problem is what do I do when I'm sick? I'm just grateful that's it's me sick instead of them!! Just thought I would threw that out. Have you tired finding a daycare that takes care of sick children. I know of one in San Antonio so I'm pretty sure they have some of these is Houston. Do you have any family or friends who can watch them that have a more flexible working schedule. When I worked I would tell me boss sorry but I'm baby is sick and I MUST take of him.
But if they are too ill you really sure stay home and take care of them. I know it must be hard when you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I wish you the best. I hope your children get well soon.

You stay home and comfort the child while it is ill. It is difficult but it is necessary. Check with your human resources office for your rights under FMLA - the family medical leave act.
