Hi everyone!
My DD is turning 2 in November and I've decided to have a simple birthday party for her at our home. I've chosen a safari/jungle theme for the party: there will be 8 children invited (ages 14 to 24 months) and the party will last approximately 2 1/2 hours.
I'm looking for suggestions on age appropriate activities I can have the kids do during that time. I know they'll probably just enjoy hanging out with each other and playing but I wanted to have 1 or 2 special activities available too.

I've decided to keep it simple......after all, the children are really into parallel play at this stage and will probably just enjoy the change of scenery (new toys to explore!). I got some great party stuff at Oriental Trading Co. and I'll be offering a small ball pit, a monkey/banana bean bag toss game, and a simple project (lacing cheerios onto pipe stems to make bracelets) for the kiddos.

one thing I've read is that you don't want to have games where there will be winners and losers for this age group!

I just had my DD's first b-day party and there were kids there from 3 months to 8 years. The younger kids just loved playing in our playroom with all the toys. I also had sidewalk chalk for the older kids. I had a pull-string pinata (I thought it was safer than the one you have to use a bat for) which I filled with candy and toys. I also had "pin the nose on Elmo" (it was an Elmo theme party) which everyone had fun with. Good luck!
Hi R.. You can find a lot of activities in the Oriental Trading magazine. They have a lot of bundle crafts that you can purchase for just such an occasion and they are pretty inexpensive. They have ton of theme ideas and they even have create your own activities with different products that they offer. I went to a 2yo birthday party last December and she had a snowman theme and all the kids got to make their own picture frames with foam pieces and stick on rhinestones. They all had a good time creating them and all the frames were unique. Hope this helps! :)

We decorated cupcakes at my daughter's 3-year birthday and it was a big hit with all ages and I thought was nice b/c it was related to her birthday. Blowing up a bunch of balloons and having them bounce them around with music is also fun (just supervise them to make sure they don't try to eat them). At that age group, the simpler the better.
when i worked with 2 year olds in daycare they loooved musical chairs, even if they didnt play right it was always fun for them, also the craft idea is really cute, and with 8 kids you should be able to manage it. also maybe put together a dance mix and have a "dance party time" kids that age looove to jump around and dance. i also know a lot of interactive songs to sing that have fun motions and such to go along with, let me know if you want a few, i can send you them!
