So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great advice. The Medela PIS seems to be the crowd favorite. I think I'm going to run with that one!

I use the Medela Pump N Style & I love it! I've used it through 2 pregnancies and it has never given me any problems. It has speed and suction control too.

Definatley the Medela Pump in style - and I agree, no need for the backpack. If it's something you're going to be using on a daily basis it's worth the money.

Best of luck and congratulations on your new little one!

Hi L., I have a 3 year old and a 15 month old. I used the Ameda Purely Yours recommended to me by a friend with children the same ages. She used hers for 18 months with both children and I have used it for a year with my first and 13 months with the second. I found it on Ebay for $150 brand new.

I hope this helps.

Dear L.,

First and foremost, CONGRATS on your new baby girl, Camille!

Secondly, my son never latched on to my breast and so I pumped for 10 months 8 times a day. I found that the Medela Lactina was GREAT but it retails for a huge amout of money. I think $400 :(

Another option that the lactation specialist at my hospital suggessted was the Medela Pump in Style. She swore that it was just as good as the Lactina AND was around $250.00 I borrowed one from a dear friend who never used her Pump is Style and I really liked that one. I found that there were very few differences between the Lactina and Pump in Style.

Well, good luck with your decision and I hope that i was able to help you. M.

Medela...Advanced Pump in Style (regular bag is fine...no need to pay more for the backpack, in my opinion). I think that's the name of it...well worth the money.

BUY A MEDELA. I DONT REMEMBER IT HAVING THE NAME SYMPHONY BUT IT WAS A MEDELA. IT CAME IN A BLACK WITH WITH DOUBLE PUMPS AND ALL THE ACCESSORIES. I HAD A FEW OTHERS - NONE OF THEM WORKED. I ACTUALLY LET TWO OF MY FRIENDS USE IT BECAUSE THE ONES (HAND HELD, BATTERY POWERED, ELECTRIC) DIDNT WORK. SPEAKING OF IT, WHICH FRIEND HAS IT NOW????? UGH SOMEBODY DIDNT GIVE IT BACK! ITS THAT GOOD.

Congratulations on your new baby! Having a baby and being a new mom has been pure bliss for me and I hope you experience the same thing!

When my baby was born six months ago, I borrowed my sister's pump, the Medela Pump in Style Original. She used the pump for her two babies and her sister also used it. I pumped sporatically for the first few months after my baby was born, but once I returned to work part-time, I used it at least three times a day. I was very happy w/ the PIS original and actively used it for three months. My sister is pregnant again so I decided to buy my own pump (I plan to have more children so anticipate needing my own pump anyway). I bought the Medela Pump in Style Advanced Backpack. I've been using it for a week and have been just as satisified w/ this one as I was w/ the Original. I think both pumps are good and will get the job done. The Original had two settings, one for strength of suction and one for speed. The Advanced only has one setting, for speed. However, the Advanced has a "2 Phase Expression" - it starts w/ a stimulation phase which is suppose to help your milk drop quickly (the stimulation phase lasts two minutes but if your milk comes in quicker, you can turn that off so that the pump changes to the expression phase). I have found that my let-down is quicker w/ the Advanced and the jury is still out as to whether I am able to pump more w/ the Advanced than the Original (the first day I pumped w/ it I did get about 1/2 to 1 ounce more at each pumping - but that could have just been a good pumping day as I haven't quite gotten that same result each time). I strongly recommend shopping for a pump online b/c you will get it cheaper. I bought mine from Worldwide Surgical Equipment, Inc. (worldwidesurgical.com) and paid $225 whereas BabiesRUs and Target wanted over $300 for the Advanced. I ordered it on Monday and it was delivered on Thursday. Two thumbs up for Worldwide Surgical. Also, I bought the Advanced b/c it was only about $30 more than the Original and I got the backpack syle b/c it was the same cost as the shoulder bag syle. I hope this helps. Good luck w/ your new baby!!

I couldnt afford the medela so my mother had gone to walmart ona hunch and came back with "The First Years Electric Double Pump"
I had tried the Medela one in the hospital and i liked it alright, but this one was only $25 and i LOVED it, it was so easy to clean and use and it expressed alot of milk out for me. Being as i was a first time mom and didnt know a thing about this stuff, it was great. My son was not able to latch on to me and this allowed me to give him the nourishment i felt he needed
Congratulations on your little one and happy mother day!

Hello. My name is L. and I was browsing mamasource this morning. I am also a member with my own "Nanny/Babynurse" service. I have added up the weeks and your baby should be about 11-12 weeks now. If you should need any assistance either with day help{4 hr. minimum}, or evening help, perhaps night help{maybe you and your husband can go out for dinner}, give us a call! My number is ####-###-#### and again ask for L.. Thanks in advance

Hi! I have a 4 month old and a 23 month old. When my first was born at 32 weeks, she was too little to nurse well. I got a Medela Pump-in-Style and it works GREAT! (I'm using it again for the new guy!) I work full-time, pump 3 times a day (unrestricted nursing when we're together), and routinely get between 15-20 oz total a day. The pump is effecient, too: it usually takes 10-15 minutes to be completely drained! One of my friends got the "advanced" version because of the "let-down" button, and she loves it. I found, though, that if you just adjust suction as you go it's very effective (I usually start it at lower suction, faster speed, then once let-down happens, I increase the suction and lower the speed) If I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me!

I don't know if you already purchased your pump. I bought a Lansinoh from Walmart. All of the attachments from the one you are using from the hospital fit this one!!:) It is a pretty good pump, it is just loud. I put a pillow or folded blanket on it and it quieted the sound enough.

The owner of our company bought me a very expensive one for my baby shower and I didn't like it too well. A friend told me she had bought a $20 double pump from Walmart. I used the Walmart one over the expensive one.
