Seeking Advice on Child Who Doesn't Eat Cake.

I've never heard of a child not eating cake--until mine came along. My daughter is six years old. She will be celebrating her seventh birthday soon. At past parties, I would buy a cake, and just let her guests partake. She doesn't like cookies either. She's lactose intolerant, so she can't even enjoy an ice cream cake. I'm fresh out of ideas, and feel at a loss here. She's fine with just blowing out candles and going on her merry way, but I wish I could do more for her. Does anyone have any creative ideas to help me out?

What can I do next?

Love the jigglers cake idea, I'm sure your daughter would love that. www.ediblearrangements is wonderful because they have a kids collection of edibles and they feature sponge bob, elmo and have fruit. www.nutrilicious.com/ if you'd like to explore that option, has lactose free, vegan, gluten free cakes. If she is not bothered by the cake issue M., you shouldn't be either. I'm sure your guests have come to know not to expect cake when they come to her parties and that's not all bad. Fruit is healthier and if it really bothers you, buy small cake for those who would love to endulge and simply ask.....cake or fruit? Your daughter won't want the cake and would prefer the fruit anyway. Make it fun....have your daughter get 2 birthday cakes...one made of fruit and the other chocolate mousse. She can blow out double candles.
And again, remember, if your daughter has no issue with the cake, and what it's made of, you shouldn't either.

my daughter (3) is the same way! she "thinks" she likes cake, and will ask for it if its there -- but ends up playing with it, licking the frosting once or twice, then she's done. for her last party i had a cake and fruit kebobs -- can i tell you the fruit kebobs were a bigger hit??? her bday is near valentines day, so i used a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut watermelon, cantelope and honeydew, and topped each with a strawberry. they were gone instantly and parents are still talking about it.

also once made jello jigglers that said "happy birthday kayla." all the kids loved picking out their letters! good luck!

What about a Jello jigglers cake? You could make a fun Jello cake using different flavors for the different layers.

When I was growing up, my mother made MUD for my brothers and me when we celebrated special events. It was chocolate pudding with crushed Oreo cookies on top. Then she would stick gummy worms and bugs into the MUD to make it look like... well... mud! It was super delicious and always a treat. I'm sure there are many ways to make MUD - I think others call it Dirt Dessert. You could substitute the Oreo cookies with powdered cocoa, and use lactose intolerant or soy milk for the pudding.

What about chocolate fondue? All the kids could dip fruit and marshmallows into the fondue, and you could have a couple of different flavors. We usually dip angel food cake into fondue, too.

Just a few suggestions... hope this helps!

what about making a lollipop tree? you could get some foam from a craft store(for flowers) shape and paint it to look the way you want and instead of sticking flowers in it fill it with lollies...and at the top you could put a #candle and light it so she can blow it out and then everyone takes a lolly.
or....maybe a gumball machine...you could have a wishing well set up(a decorated basket) and a jar of pennies...all your guests get two pennies, one to make a wish for your daughter and toss into the well and another for a gumball...then you could have a bubble blowing contest...to tie it all together...
Goodluck!

Why not buy fruit tarts from the bakery,

http://www.joyofbaking.com/FruitTart.html

Of course use a NON DAIRY CREAM.
Like Vegan cream cheese

OR you could MAKE or even order FRUIT FLOWERS!!

http://www.incredibleedibles.net/

Chocolate covered strawberries

use carob chips if she can't tolerate chocolate

OR

Get some cookie cutters and pinapple, and watermelon, and banana,Apples and whatever other fruits you want.

And the kids can cut them out themselves, and dip them in cream, choclate, or caramel,
sprinkles, ect...

Buy those already formed tart crusts strawberry shortcake cake cups, oreo cookie cups, ect.. and let them make their own cakes.

If she is fine with it why are you not? There is SOOOO much junk food in our society not eating cake is probably a good thing. This is not a problem.
My son is allergic to all sorts of food so he can't have cake, in the past I have put lollypops in the cake, given him jello and put little toys on his cake for him.
