Scouts - Field Trip Related to Arts N Crafts?

What kind of local museums and kids' attractions do you have? I know here that local museums and such will put on special classes for groups of scouts, or schools or whatever and they usually have a craft that goes with a talk and a tour or something. We even have a popular puppet studio that does a play and then a puppet making workshop for small groups.

Also, Michael's has classes that are dedicated to different crafts and things, you might try calling them and see what is available. I think they cost but they are usually inexpensive and I'm sure they would do one for your small group.

It seems you are trying to go outside the box...I would take them to a state park and let them sketch/paint a nature scene or the buildings as they see it.

My daughter just did this with Hunters in the snow. They were introduced to the art and then had to create their own piece with a poem. She used her Disney trip and drew the roller coasters and all the children playing, showing foreground and background. Don't ask how I came up with a poem, but I did. And yes, I did....she is in kindergarten.

Police Station Tour - activity in troop meeting we made the Identification Cards the policy stationg provided for us

Local Garden visisted walked around talked about plants...then we came back and planted seeds for flowers and each girl took them home.

Pottery could go with an adventure to a museum.

We are planning on visiting the a puppet show in the spring and I want to have the girls make their own puppets.

We don't always have the field trip and the arts n crafts in the same day or meeting.

Not sure if it's Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts, but I'd suggest JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's. They both offer classes. We did a birthday party for my daughter at JoAnns, and they catered it to something for the group. They could do sewing, jewelry making, you name it. There used to be a group around called Young Rembrandts that would do different art lessons with kids. It's usually during school time or after, and they would probably come to you. Oh, and a beading store would offer some jewelery making classes too, I'm sure. Sounds like a fun field trip whatever you decide!

We had a local artists that put on shows out of their home on the same day. We travelled to as many homes as we could. The kids loved it, we met painters and sculptors. I had them come prepared with lists of questions. It was one of more popular trips, we had webelos at the time. I found them through a community arts club. Sent emals out to different people, the woman that had got back to me first had a been a scout mom. Scouters are everywhere, and are always happy to help.
