Does anybody know how long a school physical stays good for? My son is starting Kindergarden in August and we have to get a health assesment for his daycare and I would like to do it all at once plus shots. Thanks S.

What can I do next?

From my experience physicals whether for school, sports or day care, were all good for 12 months. Sometimes the forms are different. So if the doctor office sees that a physical was done within 12 months, they can just fill in the new form for you.

One year is standard for the school aged child. I wrapped it all in one trip with my daughter before kindergarten and after she had started 4 year old preschool.

Typical they are good for one year but it depends on your school's rules. You must ask them when it had to be dated by, and then you will know what is acceptable to them.

Good luck,

My girl's Dr says his physicals are good for one year, and to keep the copy of what he gives me for any purpose I would need it for for that year. Hope that helps.

I want to say it is good for 1 year. You can call the school and ask, they should be able to tell you. Make sure you tell the Doc it is also a Kindergarten physical in case there is something different that the school needs as opposed to the Day Care.

From what I can remember it should be OK. Just call the school your child will be attending in the fall and they can answer your question. If not the secetary ask for the health aid she should be able to help you.

Depending on where you live and what school district you go to is whether you'll have to have a physical every year or not. My children had one just before Kindergarten along with their shots and have not had to have one since. If they have needed shots then we went and got those, but other than reporting to the school a physical, that was not necessary. If they plan to play sports with the school district or such, then they will most likely have to have another one, but not usually with the rec centers.

S.,
I'd ask your daycare how long the physical is good for. My daycare wanted my daughter's papers to be within 30 days of her enterance (30 on either side - before or after). I just had the doctors fill it out and they told me that I could have mailed it to them. So, that might be something to ask at your pediatrician's office. For the school, I think those are usually good for a year. I used to coach (I know those are older kiddos - but schools are sometimes consistent) and our physicals were good for the entire year. My advice is not to listen too much to us on this and just call the different people requesting the physical. Then, call your ped's office and tell them what you are up against. Good luck!

Hi S.,
Physicals are good for a year. And most insurance companies only cover one a year. My kids are in sports, so I usually just make several copies of the form before I turn them into the coach. If your school and daycare require different form the Doctor office will usually fill them out with out an appointment. Call your Doctor to find out the policy. It usually take a couple of days.

Before going for physical, make sure that you have the specific form for each of the requestioning facilities. They do not usually accept a form for another one. You may have to pay an extra fee at the doctors office for multiple forms, but it is worth it.

It will depend on your school district. I believe most school districts will accept them if they are within a year. Some district do not require them, just a copy of your kids immunizations record.

Hi S..
I am a teacher and coach. Usually physcials are good for one year, starting around May 15th. So if this is for next year he will need to get the physical after mid-May to be good for all next year.

They ususally last about a year. You should get your children checked at least once a year, if nothing else. I know they go in for shots & all bit that's not the same as a physical.

The state only requires one physical exam and proof of immunizations upon entrance to kindergarten in Kansas public schools. The physical must be current (within the last year) before starting school. So if you get it now, it will be sufficient for August. It will not be required every year, just once.

Most school physicals are good for a year. At least I remember having to get one every year when I was in school k-12 and we take our kids in every fall for the new school year. I know part of it is just to make sure shots and such are current. Hope this helps. And have a great day. :)

Most docs will sign off on a school physical if the child has had a physical within the past 6 mths..your best bet is to ask your childs doctor (who will sign off on the paperwork for kindergarten) to see what their office policy is..

Hi S.
The physical will only be good for one year. Or at least that is how we do it in Kansas. I work for a family practice clinic and that is the rule.

I'm not completely sure, but I think it's a year. You can check with your son's daycare or doctor. They should be able to tell you how long a physical is good for.

School physicals are good for the school year and have to be repeated each year at beginning of the year (especially sports physicals). I would recommend getting all at once though if you are having alot of shots get those spaced out so the poor thing does have too sore of a arm, leg or backside.

your daycare should not be requiring you to get a physical for your son and as long as your son is potty trained he can go to preschool my son did the year before he started kindergarten and i personaly think it is a very good thing for them to do.springfield school's want a complet record of shot's even some he has already had as a baby and they will offer you a time and place to get his shot's free they have them at a few differant school's and you can go early in the morning once his record is up to date you don't have to worry for a few year's.

Call the school and find out what shots they will need to start kindergarten. Public schools only require a copy of shot records just so that they are current, they shouldn't need a physical. They also usually send out a letter on where you can get free to discounted shots when and where. Hope this helps.
