Do you sanitize the bottles for feedings, before all feedings? Or do you wash with warm water and air dry? It is for my newborn. I pump breast milk and she also takes formula. Thx.

What can I do next?

I sanitized the bottles and nipples the first time and then I used the dishwasher. Once out I let them air dry before I put them together unless I was using them right away. I still do the same with my sippy cups!

Goodluck with the new baby! and congrats!

I used to run through the dishwasher, which gets much hotter than just warm water. About once a month or if I had to hand-wash, I sanitized after washing and then allowed to air dry.

I usually just rinsed and air dried for breast milk. Sometimes I would throw a drop of soap in there and shake it.
If it was formula I would always put a drop of soap and shake.
Don't know why, maybe I just trusted my breast milk a bit more. lol

I washed all my bottles and didn't have a dishwasher. My kids were mostly breastfed with some bottle. I think the sanitation thing goes to far. My 5 kids aren't dead and they are hardly sick. I will say, though, if your child has an immune issue, yes, you should sanitize but as for the rest of the world, let your children experience some of those germs, it's how their body learns to attack and create an immunity.

With my first, we washed each bottle by hand, then put them in a pot of boiling water, and air dried.

That get's old quick.

The dishwasher does JUST a good enough job at sanatizing, those things are piping hot when they first come out. I will rinse them out really good with hot water, put them in the dishwasher, then air dry.

Everytime a bottle get's used, it goes into the wash, so all bottles are clean and santized. I put all the nipples in a tupperware container, and cover it, that way dust, flies, whatever random things are in the air cant land on them.

Save yourself time, and money, use the dishwasher.

Well understand I have four kids, still I don't remember ever sanitizing a bottle unless the dishwasher counts. :-/

If you wash your dishes and they are good enough for your mouth then a bottle washed in the same water should be good enough for a baby.

I never sanitized anything.

I just ran the bottles and the washable pump parts thru the dishwasher and called it done.

I never sanitized the bottles after the initial 'just bought' sanitation.

I washed them in soapy water by hand, and air dried them, because I had no dishwasher.

When we moved to a place that had a dishwasher, I threw them in there.

My DD never had any issues....

Never. I foster medically fragile kids with compromised immune systems. Their pediatrician has told me that a regular wash in the dishwasher does just fine, even for the first wash :)

Our pediatrician said that washing them in the dishwasher was sufficient, and that we didn't need to sanitize them.

I sterilized them with steam at the end of every day, but did hot soapy water during the day time. I also just used filtered tap water to mix with the formula.

We just always washed them in the dishwasher, but it is my understanding that the dishwasher does sanitize them. I put the bottles in the top rack and then the nipples and rings in a basket I bought in the baby/toddler aisle (I think it was made by Munchkin).

So much easier and faster than than washing bottles by hand.

We washed in hot water with soap and then air dried. Once a week we sanitized in the microwave contraption. We don't have an operable dishwasher and we kept our bottles to a low number. It was never a big chore. Good luck.

Yes, I'd recommend sanitizing everytime. Most dishwashers do thorough enough job sanitizing because the water gets very hot and they are immediately dried by hot coils. This is no different than using a proper sanitizer, really.

If you don't have a dishwasher or santizer, I might consider getting a countertop version or the kind you can use in a microwave and then be sure to hand dry everything as soon as possible.

Stagnant water in the bottles but most especially the tubing and valves from your breast pump may breed bacteria if they're not fully dry and there is a possiblity of milk residue spoiling in nooks and crannies if you can't thoroughly clean bottles before using them.
