Reliable Thermometers

I have tried all different ones too. I have the ear one now and definitely you have to get it at the right angle. I also have a digital one to go in her mouth and it seems to work. I pretty much use both and if both come back with a fever number...I assume it's right. Anyhow, the ear one I have now is the cvs brand and I like it. I had the cvs head scan one and it was always giving me numbers all over the place...so they let me exchange it for the ear one. So, go buy one there and if you don't like it- they have 100% satifaction guaranteed. You can return it if you don't trust it. :)

We have a forehead (temporal) scanner thermometer and have had it for years. I LOVE it! It works really well. I usually scan it a couple of times, and it is usually pretty consistent. It is so quick and easy, and you don't have to worry about if they just ate or drank something. I use it on myself, too. The only time you have to be careful is if they are laying down. You want to scan the side of the their head that isn't on the pillow. I wouldn't use anything else.

With the ear ones you have to get the angle right to get the right temp. You have to pull their ear out a bit to straiten the canal and then take the temp making sure it's strait in the canal.

You kids being 8 and 6 are old enough for mouth thermometers. Just make sure its all the way under their tongue.

We have the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer. They use this at the pediatrician's office. We love ours. We use it on the kids and ourselves. You have to really practice and stay on the skin.
