My family and I are relocating to Trussville from Fort Worth, TX! I picked this community pretty much sight un-seen just based on what I had read on-line and then my husbanded visited when he flew out for his job interview and said I would love it! Well, I was just there this past week house hunting and I do love it!! But I could really use some help with referrals for well, EVERYTHING!!! LOL
I prefer to do business with local providers whenever possible especially for medical needs I don't want to have to drive far to take myself or the kids to the Dr. or Dentist....we have Aetna ins. if that makes a difference and I do NOT want a "clinic" type office. Dentist I would really like a pediatric dentist for the kids and regular practice for me, husband and teen daughter.
I've seen that there are basically Publix, Winn Dixie, WalMart and Target for groceries. We have Walmart (of course!) and Target here but I'm not familiar with the others. What can you tell me about them?
Looked like there were only a couple of gyms to choose from...I would need one with good childcare as I would have my twins who are 2 with me some times.
Churches.....My husband has already visited 1st Baptist Trussville and he said while it was very nice, not what our family is used to or would be comfortable with. Today he visited Cross Pointe and liked that better but the lead pastor is on vacation so wants to go back and check it out when he is there. We have always attended non-denominational churches with contemporary worship and casual dress. a good youth program is important because we have a teen daughter, we also have 3 younger daughters 5, 2 and 2.
I know thats a lot but if any of you can answer any part of this or give any other tips for someone new to Trussville i would so appreciate it!!! Thanks :-)

What can I do next?

Welcome to Trussville! :-) We moved here a few years ago too and it's a really easy town to transition in to. I agree with what the other post states. We use Pediatrics East. Dr. Lytle is our primary doctor but we've seen several and have no complaints about anybody. They're really great there and the after hours are the best. We use the same dentist as well. As far as church's I'm not sure what part of Trussville you are in but we attend North Valley it's off the Argo exit just in the opposite direction as Clear Branch. It's a smaller church with 2 services at 8:50 and 10:00. Very casual and contemporary. They are really focused on the children but I am not sure on youth. Average age is mid 30s. We really love it there and had checked out several churches when we first moved here. We do most of our grocery shopping at Wal-Mart just because it's convenient but Publix is really nice too. They are very friendly there and prices are a little higher but they have weekly specials and coupons on their website. Good luck :-)

Hi! Glad you are loving Trussville so far! I agree with the dentist suggestion. That is also where I take my 2 boys. I have heard great things about Peds East, but it is a very large practice. I take my kids to Tots n' Teens on Hwy 11. Dr. Barron or Townsend are great!! I also attend North Valley Church in Margaret Al. It is a fantastic church with an awesome pastor. We would love for you to come visit! You can visit the website first: www.mynvc.org
There are lots of churches in the Trussville area that have free Zumba classes with cheap childcare. Cross Point is one if them. As far as gym's go, there is the T'ville YMCA and a few smaller gyms in the area. Not sure of the names. I want to say there is a Snap Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness. As for an eye doc, I see Dr. Jason Pulliam at Leeds Family Eye Care. That would be about a 20 minute drive for you, but in a decent area. You could also go to the Eye Foundation, but that is downtown.
I do most of my shopping at the Publix at Deerfoot Pkwy. It is more expensive than Wal-Mart, but the people and organization of the store make it worth it.
Again, welcome to the area! Feel free to PM me for any questions! Blessings!

I also take my daughter to Pediatrics East to see Dr. Lytle. His office is off of Deerfoot Parkway. For a pediatric dentist, we use Dr. Massey Willingham, which is just down from 1st Baptist. My church home is First UMC Trussville (www.fumctrussville.org). We wanted a church big enough to have outreach possibilities as well as a good children's program, but not too big that you get lost or never see the same face twice. Pastor Mark is a great teacher and I always feel like he is talking directly to me. We have both contemporary and traditional services.

Hope this helps and welcome to Alabama!

As far as pediatric dentists, Massey Willingham at Trussville Pediatric Dentistry is the BEST! His office is right across from 1st Baptist Trussville (with a turtle sign).

As far as gyms, the YMCA is good with really good childcare and flexible hours. Their childcare goes up to age 7, so even your 5 year old could go in there. There's also an AC Fitness, but I'm not sure if they have childcare...................

Pediatrics East just opened a brand new building in Trussville. In fact, this is their grand opening week. They have maybe 7 doctors in that group with two different offices. The new office near downtown Trussville has the After Hours care which goes on till 8:00 on weeknights and pretty much all day on weekends. We see Dr. Harmon in that group. He's awesome, but hard to get in to see at times. So we've seen other doctors in the group at different times. That group is directly affiliated with our Children's Hospital in Birmingham, the only one in the state.

There's a smaller church near the outskirts of Trussville (in Clay) called BridgePoint Church. They have a contemporary worship and casual style. Their kids program is good on both Sundays and Wednesday nights. I'm not sure about the youth program. My in-laws attend there and have for quite a while. There's also NorthPark Baptist on what my husband's uncle calls "Highway to Heaven" (Deerfoot Parkway) Its on the same road as CrossPoint. ClearBranch is a good church too - but it is not IN Trussville. Its in Argo (one more exit up the interstate).

My husband and I shop at Winn Dixie for our groceries. They don't have Wal-Mart prices, but they are pretty affordable. Out of what you listed, Publix has the higher prices of them all. BUT, many friends from our church (we attend 1st Baptist Trussville) shop there and say they have a very good selection of food and if you do coupons, you can really save there

Hope this helps some! Good luck on your move!
