My sister-in-law is an avid workout enthusiast. (I am an avid avoider of working out!). She is in her late 50s, loves to take energetic walks, and she works at a very large plant with multiple buildings. Her job is to tend to, clean and stock several coffee kiosks for the employees that are stationed around the plant, and it involves a lot of walking around an expansive plant and some fairly tedious work.
She loves listening to upbeat music while she takes her walks and while she cleans, and right now she has a very old iPod shuffle that is giving out. She does not have a smart phone, and won't be getting one. Money is very tight.
We'd like to get her something new to listen to good music with, as a gift. She says she clips her iPod onto the waistband of her pants, either yoga pants or the khakis she wears at work. She has told me that she doesn't prefer the kind that are worn on the arm. Money is tight for us, too, so that's an issue to consider.
Question #1: what would be an affordable replacement for her antique iPod shuffle so she can enjoy her music? I have no idea what people use in the gyms or while they're power walking.
Question #2: she doesn't own a computer, so we'll load it up with songs. What are your favorite workout songs (positive, energetic, fun)? She likes classic rock and pop (Michael Jackson, etc), jazz/swing music, contemporary music (not rap or hip hop), Christian music, anything that is fun to work out to and walk briskly.

iPod Touch is popular. You can get refurbished models at places like Game Stop at discounted prices.
I walk long distances while listening to music too. If I had to get a new player to replace my old one (a Sansa Fuse) I would want to import my current playlist. Figure out how to do that, rather than try to select music for her.
Our son loves his iTouch and uses it for all his music needs.
Our fav music is irrelevant - she needs HER fav music!
Google how to transfer music from iPod to iTouch (or where ever she wants to store it).

Well, my smart phone cost me a penny, it's an S4 and I got it a week or so after it came out.
My husband's Note 3 cell phone cost him a dollar and he got it the day it came out.
We use U S Cellular and we have bonus points that we can use towards our phone purchases.
So I always wonder what phone service providers people use where they can't afford to have a nice phone. I feel really bad for them.
But, I think there are many options for music on the market today. I think I saw an MP3 player at Walmart and it was in the $20s.
refurbished ipods are pretty cheap! not sure what to suggest music-wise, though, everyone's so individual.
