Potty Training-Best Method for Boys??

I have two boys 7 and 4. They both potty trained well. I used a separate chair to start out. It makes music when the pee goes in! I could also put it in the back of the SUV (or van) when traveling about. My first day of training, I set aside a whole day that we could be outside, took the potty outside, let the boy play naked. When the pee came, I rushed him to the chair. They were both basically "trained" in one day. Of course you have to do the follow up stuff, remind them to go potty, "schedule" potty time for a while, etc. There are several one day methods which, I think, are totally worth it, less frustrating for every one! It wasn't long before they were standing to pee, then standing at the big toilet like Daddy. I now have a girl 20 months and will do the same on a "cool" day in the fall!!

Our 3 1/2 yr old boy is now using the toilet. It was not easy. He got him his own personal potty and he tried it but quickly lost interest. He found a training seat that he really liked (bob the builder) for the big toilet. That worked. We also realized we were putting way too much pressure on him. We were anxious to start potty training at about 2.5 years. He wasn't. It got ugly. We finally decided to "let go" and not make it a big issue. He regained interest at 3 and within a couple of weeks, it happened.

I used a training seat on a big potty. However the little seats/chairs that come apart are really great, you can take it with you if you are going camping!

do not let your children run naked outside like someone suggested. with the way the world is like today you may be in for a battle with child protective services.

easiest way to do it is to make sure your son is ready.
like I have said before if he is not ready the only person that will be trained is you.

I trained my kids (1 son and 3 daughters) by putting them backwards on the toilet this prevents the fear of falling in and can also see their results.
I found that teaching a child to use a potty chair only does not help you be mobile with your children. your child will always have to go elsewhere but does elsewhere have a potty chair for you to use? besides that "big people" use big potties

First, I would like to "disagree" with Marilyn (*sorry*): my son learned a lot about peeing by running around the back yard naked: none of my neighbors gave a darn, (but I don't live near busybodies or pervs).

My now-98% trained-son started with the $10 seat from Wal-Mart because he though the potty was too high, but once he got in the swing of it, he wanted to try the "Baby Bjorn" toilet seat insert with a step in front. The second he tried that, I hid the potty seat in the car for use on trips/outings, and he's been sitting up on the toilet ever since (I honestly did NOT like cleaning poops out of the potty chair: blech!)

PS: when he spent the day with our neighbors on Sat, they {{loved}} the Bjorn toilet seat we took over.
