My little girl is 3.She is doing #1 in the potty perfectly; she almost never does #2 in the potty. She knows when she has to, but if it doesn't happen as soon as she sits down, she gets back up.She went in the potty a few times, but now she'll either hide or hold it as long as she can.End result is almost always pooping in her pants. I've tried to talk to her; I've even tried punishing her and embarassing her. I don't know what else to do. She's supposed to be starting day care soon and they won't keep her if she has too many "accidents". Please... any suggestions?

When you get her to go potty in the toliet, make a big deal of it!! Praise her, let her call someone and tell them, and have them make a big deal out of it!! Praise, praise, praise!!

We have 5 children and for some reason having a bowel movement was always harder to achieve for them. Our oldest was always the same time every day, so we would leave a couple of books in the bathroom and read to together while he sat on the potty, he would also have a lollipop while sitting there. We always stayed with him so he wouldn't be anxious to get up (and to watch that lolli), like you said your daughter does. Just have patience and try not to yell at her but use a SHORT explination of why to use the potty and not anywhere else. After potty training 4 children (still have one to go yet) I know it can sometimes be so draining but just be consistent and she will catch on! Good Luck!

I have a 3 year old also and have just finished up potty-triaining so it is fresh on my mind! I understand your frustration...but don't embarass or punish her, that will make it worse from everything I've read and experienced myself. Try this: get her a small gift, something she's been wanting a long time. (I got a rack of 4 princess shoes-about $15) and put it on the back of the toilet. Everytime I sensed she had to go, or in some cases, after it was too late, I gently reminded her that when she was ready to go poop on the big-girl potty, she could pick out a pair of princess shoes, did she want to try it? She turned me down for a couple of weeks, but always talked about so I knew she was mulling over the idea. Then one day, on her own, she did it!!! It was a tremendous success---she picked a pair of slippers, I took her picture.....then she was game to win the 3 other pairs....after that.....we went to just dum-dum suckers. I think seeing a toy that she wanted everyday, within her reach, but not being able to have them was key. Everything else I tried to bribe her with was an invisible promise to her. I also learned from the whole experience that she does things when she's ready and no sooner. Even peeing on the potty took months of effort with NO success. I felt totally defeated. Then one day, when I had back off for a while, she told me she had to pee-pee on the potty. She never missed once after that! She was ready! But that wasn't until one month before her 3rd birthday. Good luck!!!

I USED TO DO THE POTTY DANCE!!EVERYTIME I COULD GET MY KIDS TO USE THE POTTY EITHER "POO-POO" OR "PEE-PEE" I'D DANCE AROUND THE BATHROOM LIKE A COMPLETE IDIOT AND SING YEAH, YOU ________, IN THE POTTY YOU ___________YOU IN THE POTTY, YEAH!!! AND I'D SET ME STOVE TIME FOR EVERY FIFTEEN MINS AND NOT MATTER WHAT I DID THIS ROUTINE. THEN IF MY SON WAS "HOLDING IT" I'D TAKE HIM EVERY 5 TO 10. AND PRETTY SOON HE LIKED HEARING THAT SONG SO MUCH HE'D DO IT JUST TO HEAR THE SONG AND GIGGLE. HOPE THAT HELPS!!T.

check out www.pottytrainingsolutions.com they carry a product called PODs. It is for chidren who are getting close to being fully potty trained, but need a little bit of extra help. Going #2 in the potty is harder for some children than others and she might be a little scared at the thought. We used PODs with our daughter and she was completely potty trained accident free within a couple weeks. It is an amazing product and I highly recommend it. good luck.

My 4 year old son was the same way. He had some hang up but I could not figure it out. He used to go under our table to do number 2 when he was in diapers. He even needs his privacy now. I started reading to him when he sat on the toliet(not long about 3 min) and he still did not go but he did get comfortable sitting there. Then we made up a silly song about going in the potty and he tried to push it out at a certain point in our song. That just made him more comfortable. Then I went to Wal mart and got a lot of little prizes and put them in a "poopoo basket" so he got to pick from it when he went and that was all it took. He had an accident every now and again but hthe basket worked! Hope this helps

HI S., I WOULD NOT PUNISH HER FOR GOING #2 IN HER PANTS. MY OLDEST 2 KIDS WERE POTTY TRAINED WHEN THEY WERE 2 YRS OLD. THEY ARE NOW 4 AND 2.5 YRS OLD. I WOULD PUT HER ON THE POTTY UNTIL SHE USES IT. LIKE AFTER SHE EATS AND JUST WAKES UP. IF YOU HAVE HER HER OWN POTTY, MAKE HER SIT ON IT UNTIL SHE USES IT. IF IT TAKES PUTTING HER POTTY IN FRONT OF THE TV OR WHATEVER, DO IT. BUT I WOULDNT DO IT OFTEN IN FRONT OF TV. IT WORKED FOR MY 2 SO FAR. SHE MAY FUSS ABOUT BEING ON THE POTTY ALL DAY BUT SHE WILL GET IT.

S.,
What we did for our son who is three is I made a sticker chart to hang on the wall behind the toilet. I put his name on it and that it was his poo poo potty chart. I then wrote the number five with the picture of a sticker beside of it and then an equals sign and drew the picture of a thomas the tank engine. Everytime he poops in the potty he gets to put a sticker (they are thomas too) on his chart and the first few weeks it was every five stickers earned him a new engine. Now we are up to 10 stickers and he has been doing great with the exception of having a small stomach bug the past week. We also let him have a hot wheels car when he poops in the potty (we have a large amount of them that we have been buying since he was born) and when he remembers that he can have one, we allow him to get one. They are also used for prizes for other things as well!

Ok, this is what I did with my oldest. He LOVED Dora the Explorer and Hot Wheels. First I got him Dora panties and told him Dora doesn't like to be pooped on. Second I told him every time he pooped in the potty he got a poopie car. This is a kid who refused, and I do mean REFUSED, to go poopie in the potty. He would constipate himself. It came to me in a dream about the Dora panties. You know, he did not poop once on Dora! We went through a ridiculous amount of Hot wheels, but he started going to get the car. I know your next question is how long are you supposed to give them hot wheels. Well, he stopped asking for them after a while and I stopped reminding him. Of course, my youngest son is now refusing and the Dora is not working because he is into Blue's Clues and I haven't found Blue underwear yet and he could care less about hot wheels. Of course he is not two yet, but insists on going in the big potty (tee, tee). My problem with him is he takes his diaper off and pees on the floor. No matter what I do he peels it off, pull ups too! I know I need to be stricter with him, I just don't have the energy. He's ready and I'm NOT!! OH, another thing. Andrew always waves goodbye to his poopie and tee tee. He flushes and waves. Silly, but it kinda helped.
