Hello! What helped you to potty train your kid? Any resources? When did you decide to place them on the potty? How often did you place them on the potty? How long do you ask them to sit on the pot before they are allowed to do other things?

What can I do next?

with my first daughter for her 2nd birthday we got her a potty chair, that was in May, a few months later in summer i let her run around outside in just big kids underwear. so if there were any accidents we were outside, but usually she let me know in time.(we were at home) she also liked to think she had big girl underwear on so i would put them over her diaper when we went out some where.
my sencond daughter with be 2 soon and she already tells me when she has to go, usually it is rigth after she has gone, so again i am waiting for summer to let her run around outside "naked" good luck

I would put my children on the potty every 2 to 3 hours. I also found that they preferred the regular toilet to their little one. Also, you have to have the right "carrot"; something that your child really wants and must be successful for a good amount of time; ie. one/two weeks. Each of my four children had different "carrots" from staying the night at a cousin's house to a fire truck.

Well, my son loved to paint so my father-in-law made him a wood potty stool. It was just a plain unpainted stool that we put next to the toilet for him to stand on to get up to the big potty. Evey time he used the big potty he got to paint a little bit on the stool with one color. It was super easy and IT WORKED! I just quickly rinsed the brush off in the sink afterwords and we were done. The paints stayed in the bathroom as a reminder for him. After several times, the stool started to become very colorful and he was always excited to add another streak of color onto it. He's ten now and we still have the stool and use it sometimes when we need to get something high up.

I used the 3 day potty training technique by Lora Jensen. You can download it from the itnernet for about $24. My son was trained by the beginning of the second day. It was amazing. You have to be able to commit your time completely to the 3 day technique though, but believe me it is worth it. Best of luck to you. The first day was awful for us but I continued and it clicked for him by the end of the day.

Hi N.,

My daughter turned 2 last August. She had been doing good using the potty but then she stopped. About a month ago I told her no more diapers and just started putting panties on her. The first couple of days she had a couple of accidents but now she gets on all by herself to go. I put her right on the big potty with a seat instead of the little potties that sit on the floor. She's to the point now she only wears a pull up at night. Good luck!

What ended up working for us was 1 week of naked time, which some ppl are jsut not comfortable with.
We were going to the beach for a week and decided that since she would be outside all day, in a bathing suit we would just go without swim diapers or regular diapers.
She had a couple of accidents the first day, the second day only one, and also on the 2nd day she knew she needed to go #2 and sat herself on the little potty and went.
From there, it was jsut gravy!
At home, we had tried the forcing her to sit on the potty for a least 5 mins, trying to show her how to puch, etc. None of it worked for us. We tried to make sure she sat on the potty every 30 mins or so for at least a couple of mins. No fail, every time she got up, she would have an accident.
Good luck!

Hi N.,

I had always heard to wait until they are at least 2 1/2 yrs old to start potty training because sometimes if you start too early they can regress back and not want to do it at all. However, if your daughter seems ready and interested then I would definately try it, you'll know if she has no interest in it yet. I have two girls and I didn't even start trying until 2 1/2 yrs old. I would give them a snack they really liked or candy if they went potty to reward them. I also let them pick out big girls panties at the store, which made it more exciting. Another thing that might work is letting her pick out her own potty seat that fits on the big toilet. Hope this helps! Good luck!
