Post Preg FEET - Need Help with Shoes

Ladies-

I had been told to expect that my feet might grow/stay larger after pregnancy. It seems thought that they've changed shape. First a little about me. Pre-preg, I stood 5'1" and weighed roughly 130 lbs. I have had flat feet and wore size 5.5 wide.

While pregs, I gained a reasonable amount of weight, getting to 149lbs in the 8th month. (Nausea then heartburn made it hard to eat or keep food down). My feet did swell quite a bit however, and during the 2nd and third trimesters of pregnancy, I wore velcro sandals.

My son is now 4 and a half months old. The weight, fortunately peeled right off. Within a month, I was down to 142, and am now at 134. I think those final few lbs will shift when we wean.

Meanwhile, my feet are miserable. I am now buying 6 or 6.5 wides, but nothing fits, not even galoshes. The trouble is the top of my foot, right over the arch. Everything seems to rub against this area. Could my foot have gotten thicker in addition to getting longer and wider?

I've bought several pairs of Mary Janes to avoid chafing and rubbing this area. I do need loafers, and other closed shoes as I live in NY and the weather here is very changeable. Any suggestions on brands/ styles that are generous in this area? Anyone been through this before? Will my feet revert?

Thanks

What can I do next?

Try Dansko. They are a great shoe that is comfy and fits a bit wider. It's a clog with a closed back and they are great for all kinds of weather, except maybe summer! ;)

Sketchers. I wear a 5.5 wide in Sketchers and their Bikers style was a godsend during and shortly after my pregnancy. My feet are about what they were before, but my mom's feet grew a size after 2 kids.

I don't have a good answer...I just wanted to say that I share your pain. My daughter is almost four and I can hardly find anything that I find comfortable. Luckily, I live in a warm climate and can get away with sandals a good part of the year.

You may have changed the way that you carry yourself, thus the reason for your foot.

If you always carry the baby on 1side, (for me, it's my left), it acutally changes the way your whole body aligns (I've been seeing a chiropractor since I started having kids 3 yrs ago). Your hip can hike up on one side, your muscles will overcompensate for the extra weight on the other. This puts extra stress on everything, including your feet. You may be unconsiously adjusting for the shift in your posture.

Honestly, I'd try some stretching and a good foot massage - not just a rub, but a deep muscle massage on your feet. Sounds like you might be a little tensed up on the right side and you need it to relax.

First, oh I am so jealous! My "baby" is 2.5 and I still blaming my weight to my pregnancy cravings, lol.
Yes, my feet grow all over after pregnancy #2. After a while the went down a little but never to my original size.
Get measured in a good place and buy 2 pairs and wait a little longer just in case your feet keep going back to your original size but I would think after a year and half it will be ok to buy shoes if your feet still a 6 or 6.5.

I too feel your pain. After having my kids, I was amazed at the transformation of my feet. I never expected my feet to have so many changes, people never tell you about that part. LOL I went to payless and was able to find shoes to accommodate my needs, so maybe try there to get you through until warm weather. My one regret is I tossed out all of my pre-pregnancy shoes, figuring these new sizes were here to stay. I was sooooo wrong! Keep your pre-pregnancy shoes! When my last child was about 3yrs old, my feet finally returned to normal. They went back to the pre-pregnancy size, fit and everything. This may not be the case for all women but it may be a light at the end of the tunnel for you. :)

Go to a very good shoe store and get measured and fitted. No need to suffer. Go to Naturalizer, Clarks or somewhere else where they know what they're doing. This isn't the time to fit yourself off of the rack! LOL
Good luck!
