Hi there -
I've been doing some research on buying a new camera for my mom. I have an Canon Rebel that I love, but she has made it very clear she wants something small. That said, do any of you moms have suggestions on smaller, digital cameras that do a good job of catching the little ones? Mainly she is taking pictures of the grandkids and basic posed shots at family events. She has a Canon so she is familiar with how they work, but its getting old and the picture quality just isn't the same.

Thank you!

I have a Nikon coolpix, it's very easy to use and takes excellent pics and vids. Goes through batteries pretty fast tho, so getting her a charger and 4 batteries would be a nice add on.

If she will be using it around kids, I would suggest a waterproof and shock proof one.

I just got a Panasonic Lumix ZS7 and I really like it. It's a little bigger than some p&S cameras, but still fits in my "toddler sock" that I use to carry my camera! LOL It has a nice quick shutter (not much lag) and a lot of cool features. I got it $100 off sale price on Amazon!

We have 2 Fuji FinePix Z series. When we lost our one we bought another one. They take fantastic pictures and are reasonable cost. About 2 years ago when we first looked they were the fastest shutter speed on the market below an SLR. They are small and wonderful. We also got the Extreme III SD card as the speed of the card plays into how fast the camera is too. It has done a great job catching our spirited daughter in all of her antics. Here's the most current one at Target. We have the 7 mp and 10 mp.

It's small and fun. Easy to take pictures and video.

I like the Canon A series. I've given them to my parents, and have one myself. The picture quality is great, the delay is no worse than any point and shoot, and they take AA batteries, so you can use re-chargeable or not. I prefer to have the option to take a regular battery when traveling.

I love my Cannon PowerShot SD600 and highly recommend it. The picture quality is great and it's simple to use. It uses a rechargable battery specific to the camera which I love as well.
