Hi, we were thinking about taking a family vacation to Mexico sometime soon, but I have no idea where to go in Mexico because no one in my family has ever been there. Have you been to certain places in Mexico and had good or bad experiences that you would be willing to share with me? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I'd have to agree with the previous posts - just got back from Cancun about 2 weeks ago - just stayed in Puerto Morales (Excellence Resort - adults only), and loved Telum when there for a vacation last year. We stayed at the Dreams Resort in Telum - all inclusive, and for families. Food was great! (and I am a pretty picky eater) We went to Xel Ha ("shell ha") and loved it! Fun for everyone!

I really like the all inclusives - they're great. Good luck!

I would have to agree with Alethea! Cancun is an awesome place to go. We were just there in November and loved it. There are tons of family friendly resorts, many of them all inclusive which worked out great for us. We went to Tulum, Chitchen Itza and Xel-ha. All were great but I don't think your little ones would be too excited about Tulum and Chitchen Itza. Lots of ruins but not much else!
I've also been to Puerto Vallarta. It was nice also but I like Cancun better. Have fun planning your trip!

Oh, yeah! Mexico is amazing...I was to permanently live there we had such a blast! I recommend the Dreams Resort in Cabo St. Lucas. It's right on the tip of the peninsula and it is child-friendly. They have whale watching excursions, shelling trips, jeep 4-wheeling (even for the kids) and yummy food the the four restaurants on the resort. There are two pools and the beach is right there. It is a bit pricy, but sooooo worth it.

I'd stay in/near Cancun. There are many other beautiful spots to visit but with the latest info on the cartels fighting I wouldn't go near any border town or anyplace close to a border town. Many of my friends in San Diego who border hop a lot won't go right now.

The tourist areas are fine, especially down south. We've stayed in Cancun (touristy, but easy to navigate esp with the bus system and tours based there). Puerto Morales just south of Cancun...it has an alligator farm. Whohoo!. Then near Tulum further south.

Seeing Xel-Ha, Tulum, Chichen Itza, and the underground/underwater caves are a must.

You may look at going to Belize instead. It's been independent from Britain for over 20 years now. Consequently everyone speaks English and it's the law is based on Common law, just like the US . It's just a few hundred miles south so the diving, beaches, weather, prices etc are all the same as Southern Mexico. Ambergris Cayo was amazing, and there are no cars and San Pedro is the town that Madonna sang about. The accessibility from Houston is the same as for Mexico.

Happy vacationing!!!
