Part-time Jobs

I was wondering if there are any descent-paying part-time jobs out there where I can afford child care. I would like to work and make my own money again but most part-time jobs only pay minimum wage to ten dollars an hour, not enough to pay for child care. I have one child who will be two in March. I am a former teacher but do not want to return to the classroom. My mother cannot do the baby-sitting much longer on a regular basis so I need child care. I have thought of putting my name on a substitute list but I can't hire child care on-call. I need to know when I am working. Thank you very much.

P.S. Working from home is not an option for me. I'd like to get out and talk to people.

What about tutoring or something like that?

With our family, unless I found a job that paid $30+ an hour we'd be LOSING money on childcare for our 3 kids.

If it's more important for you to 'get out and talk to people', what about joining a club or activity group where you can meet up with women with similar interests as you?

I've just gone back to work this week. My kids are two and four and I've always been home with them. I'm working a retail job at a specialty store that pays well (surprise!!) and is evenings and weekends only. I applied a few places and took the job that fit my schedule the best. My husband leaves work around 4:30, and I meet him at work and we swap cars and he takes the kids home so I can be to work by 5. I work one weekend day, sometimes no weekend days. Maybe something like this would work for you? I found this job by looking in the smaller community papers rather than online or in the big local paper.

With out the right kind of job experience it may be difficult to find part time work for more than $10. I do know some teachers that work part time though. My son's teacher just had a baby so she co-teaches with anther teacher so each of them only works part time and they share one class.

Try Costco... I heard they have good... hourly pay. Over $10.
Or a Grocery type store.... they have all kinds of hours/shifts....

I worked in an actual daycare and brought my children. It was free for one and half price for the other, then eventually subbed throughout the years. No you won't get lots of money, but you will keep a teaching background if you change your mind later and you will have your children taken care of as well as a few extra dollars.

I wish I could help you with job ideas, but I can only think of tutoring or a server position. Which county are you located in? My husband teaches in Pinellas, and I have tried to get on the substitute list myself but there has been a hiring freeze all year in Pinellas. I honestly just decided that teaching isn't for me, and am staying at home with my two children. I could possibly help you out with childcare if you needed in the future as my schedule is open now:) I would not be relying on the income...so you would not need to worry if you sub one week and not the next ya' know. I have TONS of great, local references. I am the "go to" mom when someone needs a night out or has an appointment. I wish you the best in your serach, and will keep thinking of ideas.
