I am wondering what you mean by "small contractions"? Are you thinking that the pain might be contractions or is it more like a dull ache that comes and goes? True contractions in a pregnancy are usually either in the lower half of the abdomen or across the lower back....sometimes they are both. It feels as though a belt has been low slung around and under your belly and someone is tightening the belt and causing a sharp, cramping, contraction in the muscles. It's a feeling you would not be able to ignore. I have had two pregnancies and there were plenty of other aches and pains that cropped up along the way. You may be experiencing some ligament stretching in the hip area due to the uterus getting larger and also heavier as time goes on. 9 weeks is early for that but everybody is different. It does sound like a cranky muscle or ligament in that area because you mentioned that when you hold it or apply pressure, it feels better. That happens when you are giving extra support to an aggravated muscle and alleviating the strain on it. I've had this stuff happen both times in my pregnancies but not really until well into the second or third trimester when I was really starting to get a belly. If you are worried about this, please call your OB/GYN and talk to them about what you are feeling. It could be nothing or it could be something that needs to be looked at. You just never know. Being pregnant is not easy and your body goes through a lot of physical adjustments. There will be aches and pains on occasion but these should always be mentioned to your OB/GYN on your visits....just be be sure you are okay. Don't panic, try to relax, and if the pains come at a particular time ( like while working hard, moving around a lot, cleaning, lifting, exercising, etc.) then it's probably muscle strain and it will come and go. You may need to take it easy and stop all the running around if that's what you're doing. Make notes on when this happens and talk to your doctors about it. And if the pain gets real bad, happens a lot, or you see bleeding.....you go to the ER....don't wait. Better to be cautious then not. I think you are just fine and congratulations on being Preggers! It's most likely round ligament pain. Have you been pregnant before? When you're on a second or third pregnancy, this ligament tends to get stretched sooner. It can feel like a contraction. Call the doctor just to be safe, but I had that pain throughout my first pregnancy. It's not fun, but nothing to worry about.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was about as far along as you. It was my round ligaments stretching around my uterus or that it was the doctor told me. I was in serious pain for about a wekk off and on and then it just went away. I actually didn't believe the doctor because it hurt so bad so I ended up going to the emergency room but everything was fine. It was my first pregnancy so I didn't know any better. It happened again to me another month or so down the road but by then I knew what it was. So try not to worry.

It's most likely just the ligaments that hold the uterus up are starting to stretch and causing pain. That's why when you hold it, it feels better. You might want to check with your doc to make sure it's not eptopic (usually determined with an ultrasound).

I would think it's probably a ligament pain like the other moms suggested but there is another possibility. If this isn't your first pregnancy you maybe experiencing pubic symshysis separation. You'll feel intense pelvic pain throughout the rest of your pregnancy & after too for sometime. Once it develops in one pregnancy, it will typically occur in every pregnancy after that. If you haven't been pregnant before, then it's probably not it. It's usually caused from labor. Just talk to your dr. It's probably not a big deal. good luck

This seems a bit early to be ligament pains to me.... If it is ligament pain, when you lean towards the area that hurts it -should- go away or at least lessen in severity. If it doesn't, you should maybe have them take a thorough peek at your left ovary when you go in. I've had pains right above my right hip for the last six years, and we found two ovarian cysts on my right ovary during our first ultrasound of baby this June. If they dont find anything its better being safe than sorry!

Luck to you!
