I am looking for an OTC allergy medicine for both myself and my 8 year old. I have tried Claritin, Sudefed, and Benedryl but none of those are working for me. The Claritin doesn't work at all ( I am told that it takes a few weeks to kick in) I only have occasional allergies so I don't want something to take everyday. Sudefed and Benedryl just make me feel like a zombie and sometimes they work, sometimes not. My 8 year old has allergies too and the benedryl works for him but I don't want to send him to school drowsy. Thank in advance!
You may want to talk to your doctor about the nasal sprays for allergies. I've taken Nasonex. It can take a few days to work 100% effectively, but then it's just maintenance..one spray per nostril each day. Something to think about.
My husband has terrible allergies that always developed into terrible sinus headaches then infections- for years. We finally found a product- it is natural- allernon. You can go ti www.allernon.com to read up on it. They are drops you put under your tongue. It used to only be available on their website, they now carry it at Whole Foods. Two weeks after using it, he has never had another sinus infection again.

For me, Zyrtec (from behind the pharmacy counter, it contains a decongestant vs. the one on the shelf) and for my daughter I use Triaminic Allergy. Hope this helps.
Try the Zyrtec. I use the one on the shelf and it works for me. By prescription, the Nasonex nose spray works wonders for me.
