I need some advice about orthodontists.
I have taken my daughter (12 yrs old) to two different orthodontists for opinions. The Terry Moore office which was very nice- wanted to extraxt four teeth and Dr Birth's office (on Hightower- Ft worth) said they could do it with no problem without extraxtions. I like her approach but have heard some bad reviews about Dr. Birth's office. Do you know anything about Dr Sheila Birth's office that you could share? I have Delta Dental so I have to stick with a dentist that accepts that plan.
Thank you,

K.Davis

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for all the information! I was surprised at the good reviews that Dr Birth's office got - so many people can't be wrong. I would have liked to use Dr. Lustig or Dr.McReynolds but they do not take Delta Dental. With this plan, most of the offices available for me, are these Dental Centers that I am trying to stay away from. I have to say that the way Dr Birth explained this - there is a shift in what the orthodontists are looking at - not just the teeth but also the whole facial structure to determine whether to pull teeth or not. If they can do this without pulling that is the way I would prefer to go to eliminate the chance for gaps and keeping as many of your teeth as possible. I appreciate all of your opinions, this website is great!

I'm getting Invisalign and I just had my impressions made yesterday at Dr Birth's office (FT Worth)! I LOVE the staff there- especially Renee, the office manager. The only complaint I have so far (only been there three times)is that the waiting room is PACKED all the time. I asked the fromt desk if it was normal and she said "yes, but it usually moves fast". I waited thirty minutes. Other than that, I'm happy. I also visited other ortho offices-- Lester Kupperman (also very nice- just very expensive), and John Murphy. Good luck!

As a foster parent I have taken 13 children to Dr. Birth and I can tell you we have had a positive experience every time we have walked in the door. The reception staff is well informed and have gone out of their way to provide extra paperwork when needed for my children. It is true that your child will see different Drs. but they all are great Drs. that provide services that are in your child's treatment plan. They are friendly, caring and most of all have provided my kids with great smiles. Some of my kids had teeth pulled and others didn't all with the same success. They get you in on schedule with very little wait time and keep the parent informed on the treatment. 100% happy parent.

I ended up having to "transfer" to Moore's office when my ortho had a stroke when I was 12...BAD experience there and I'm not pleased with the outcome to this day...when we discussed our feelings when I was 14...it didn't matter and we left unhappy. Anyway, we took our son to Dr. Janet Stinson on North Tarrant and 377 and she was VERY affordable (at the time) and just wonderful!! She is in the Albertson's shopping center but facing Home Depot. Good luck - I would get a second opinion!!!

Both my grandson and my granddaughter received braces from Dr. Birth's office. He was 15 at the time and really wasn't too interested in wearing braces so didn't wear them long. She is 10 and is still in her braces. We have had no problems with Dr. Birth's office. As a matter of fact, both my daughter and I would recommend her office highly. Even though my grandson didn't stick with his regime, he continues to wear the retainer at night and his teeth look good.

I don't know either of those dentists, but my daughter had to have 5 teeth extracted.... I think it really depends on the mouth of the child. If my daughter hadn't had hers removed there would have been NO room for straightening. Her teeth are tight now and she has 4 less permanent teeth. The 5th tooth was just a baby tooth that they pulled since they were there anyway and it was impeding the permanent tooth from coming in... so I don't know .... the two options you got are so different, I think I'd look for one more oppinion.

We visited Dr. Birth's office and Dr. Lustig and chose Lustig. Birth's office was nice but was turned off by the amount of so many dentists that our children would be seeing. We were told that each visit may be a different doctor. Dr. Lustig was wonderful and he is the only one we have yet to see at his office. It is a smaller practice, very friendly and we only have to go every 3 months which makes it very easy around busy schedules. I do not know what insurance they take but they also have a coupon that floats around to help with the overall cost so if you call them tell them about the $250 coupon and they will apply it to your account. Good luck!

I'm not sure about either of those doctors but Dr. Birth's approach is what our ortho did with my son. He's 14 now and out of his braces but he started the process at about 12. Our ortho was Dr. Robert Gallagher. He has an office in Grand Prairie and Grapevine.

I have never heard anything bad about Dr. Birth's office. Actually, the location that you went to is the same location that my sister (was 29/30), my son (was 12), and my neice (was 12) all got their braces. Dr. Christi Fletcher is close family friend, and great in her profession. Dr. Moore's office was our first consultation. They wanted to put some device in my son's mouth to extend out his jaw. He said the lower jaw was under developed. I took my son to our family dentist, who had been our dentist since my son was 5, he said my son's jaw was fine, and didn't see why that diagnosis was made. Dr. Birth's office diagnosed that he just had too many teeth in his mouth, which gave him an overbite, and needed 4 extractions. Our family dentist agreed. My son now has straight teeth, closed gaps, and the girls go crazy over him! Another friend of mine, had taken her son to Dr. Moore, spent over $5000, and did not see positive results. Her son now goes to Dr. Birth because most of the process is being redone. Also, a very dear sister-friend has twins (boy & girl) that go to Dr. Birth's office in Arlington, and the results have only been posititve. I hope this is enough to help you make your decision.
