Opinions Needed on Where to Have a C-section in Massachusetts

I have one daughter who is now two years old and I had her via c-section due to lots of problems including preeclampsia. I had a really bad time at South Shore Hospital and the Crown Colony OBGYN group, who nearly killed me twice by just not following through. I know I have a chance of having problems again and am considering going to Brigham and Womens or some other major hospital but I've been told by a lot of people that its not the hospital but the doctor that matters. So if anybody could give me a recommendation for an OBGYN or hospital to deliver at I would really appreciate it :o) Thank you for your time.

C., I second the recommendation for New England OBGYN in Brookline. My physician, Mary Kim Bunnell, is great, but all seven physicians are excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or the care at Brigham and Womens. Good luck!

C.,
I had my second c-section in May of this year. I am 39 and morbidly obese. These factors are a recipe for a very difficult recovery. But my surgeon was so good I had very little recovery this time. I actually felt so good that if I hadn't been awake for the c-section I wouldn't have believed that he did the surgery. Much different than the first time. My doctor was Dr. Richard Rubin at Concord OB/GYN. I delivered at Emerson Hospital, also in Concord. I know this may be a drive for you if you were at South Shore before, but I honestly believe it would be worth the drive. Everyone at Concord OB/GYN was great. From the front desk girls, to the lab tech, to the nurses, to the Drs. I only had one Dr I wasn't crazy about,(There are 4 in the practice.), and it wasn't a problem with her skills it was her personality. Same thing with Emerson. Everyone was awesome. I had to go to L&D for the last 7wks of my pregnancy, twice a week, for non-stress tests. So I met just about everyone who worked in L&D and they were all great.
So if you are able to make the commute I would HIGHLY recommend Concord OB/GYN and especially Dr. Rubin.
Good Luck.

Hi C. - I had my first c-section at MGH, and my OB was part of their OB/GYN medical group - Dr. jennifer kickham. I had great care there, before, during and especially after the birth.
I had my second child at Winchester Hospital, but that's probably too far away from you if you're on the south shore. Good luck - hope you have a better experience this time.

Congratluations to you on your pregnancy!
I had my second c-section in April at MGH with Dr. Jennifer Kickham. I thank god for her because it was very complicated to say the least and if it hadn't been for her, I would have been a 33 year old in the ICU with an emergency hysterectomy after a ruptured uterus. She saved me from a lot or trouble and now I am healthy and have a healthy baby girl.
You are going to get many recommendation so just take your time to make the best decision.
Good luck to you!

Hi,
I had my daughter via c-section at the Brigham 2 years ago. My doctor was wonderful but has since stopped doing obstetrics. While I am not pregnant yet again, I have started seeing a gyn at Commonwealth ObGyn in Boston, they've come highly recommended by friends. I see Dr. Demaggio right now. Again she is only Gyn but lovely. My friend who has delivered three healthy girls recommended Dr. Ackerman in the same office. I had nothing but good things to say about the brigham as well I terms of our care while there. Good luck!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Drs. Ahn and Shen in Norwood. I had two C-sections with them at Caritas Norwood and both they and the hospital were great.

I highly recommend Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge; amazing staff and maternity resources, but small enough that you never feel like a "number". My OB is Leslie MacDonald out of the Watertown office (MT. Auburn Practice for Women), but there are offices affiliated with the hospital in Cambridge, Arlington, and my Watertown office. The number for my dr. is ###-###-####, and there is one other OB on staff and a full-time nurse practitioner. I had two c-sections at the hospital, both of them very positive experiences! Good luck to you!

I have 2 sons who were both born at Newton Wellesley under the care of Dr. McCrary...he's excellent, very experienced and always on call ;-) (he was there for both deliveries)
The maternity ward is also really good. Not sure if I'll have a third baby but would go back there for sure

I had 2 great experiences at South Shore Hospital so you experience may very well have more to do with your doctor. I like Atrius Women's Health Center. My OB for both babies was Hsi-Pi Chen and she ROCKS! My nurse-midwife was Michelle and their staff is fabulous.

I had post-partum hypertension and an emergency section the 1st time around and I appreciated my Dr. letting me go home on day 3 instead of making me stay in the hospital. They sent a visiting nurse and my follow-up care was great!

I recommend SSH to friends having babies all the time. I know a lot of people who have had great experiences there but I also know a few who've preferred oth hospitals. Good luck on your choice!
