I vote for sand bucket & shovel and bags of goldfish crackers!

I'd try an age appropriate toy like a ball. I wouldn't want my one y/o to receive any candy, but you could do food items like Teddy Grahams, Cheddar fish or similar items.

For my son's first birthday party, I just got little sand buckets and shovels and wrote their names on the front in a permanent marker. His birthday is in June, so I thought I was a seasonally appropriate gift. The kids loved it and I know some of them still use it.

I got buckets with shovels at 5 below and put the kids names and a few animals on them with foam letters. I also put bubbles, organic animal crackers and a few other little age approp. things in there. They were a hit. Good luck!

Sippy cups! Buy a bunch a the Dollar Store, you can fill them with age appropriate gummy snacks or fruit bars.

for my daughters 3rd birthday party, there were going to be alot of 1 year olds, so I bought sand buckets and shovels, and put in sunglasses, a blow up beach ball, and some stickers. I know everyone used these! I try not to get stuff that will just get thrown out!
