Newborns Breathing Through Mouth

I was wondering at what age do newborns begin to breath through their mouths. My pediatrician told me to be careful about taking my baby out on stroller walks since he is only able to breath through his nose. Air is forced into his mouth and into his stomach which may cause extra gas and colic. I do have a travel system stroller with car seat attachment, so I am able to take him out without that worry, but I was wondering when I'd be able to start using my jogger stroller.

What can I do next?

wait til about 6 mos. old. Even at the age it will be hard if you are running. Put up the jogger for a bit and enjoy your other stroller. There are canopys that go around joggers for when he is 6 mos. if you plan on running.

I used my jogger with both kids around 6 weeks of age for each. Just don't do any off road kind of jogging. Too much jarring isn't good for neck/spine, etc.. Most jogging companies will tell you 8mos or so for this. But walking and light jogging - go for it. The whole breathing thing you mention, I haven't heard of it. I understand what you are saying but I've never heard of someone being told not to take baby out in a stroller because of it. I attend Stroller Strides and I've seen many babies in joggers or strollers from 8 weeks or so w/out any problems.

Also, if your jogger has an adapter on it so you can just clip on the infant car seat, that would be even better.

I just read some other comments and I see what they are saying but if your jogger lays flat than you can lay baby down or if the incline is small, use a snuzzler so baby doesn't move around.

Enjoy your new baby!!

jogging strollers specify that the baby must be able to sit up on their own ( no assistance) so you have a while before you can use it. Stick with the travel system for now. My son started breathing through his mouth pretty eary but that was because of some congestion. Check when he is sleeping. Is the mouth open or closed...youcan use one of those small dental mirrors to check for steaming. :)

I myself was eager to get out and use my stroller for walks. I asked the same question about the jogger stroller and the recommendation I got was to wait till 6 months or at least until your child can sit up well. The air can still bother their little noses. Have you tried breathing with the window down in the car, It isn't easy. I notice even with my 9 month old that she has trouble if it is windy.
