New Vaccine for 11 Year Olds

Has anyone done research on the new vaccine requirement for 11yr olds? My son is extremely healthy and has had all his vaccines up to this point. He was breastfed for 16 months. With everything going on with Autism and the suspicion of vaccine preservatives, I am leaning towards exempting him from the meningicoccal vaccination. Does anyone have inside knowledge of this new requirement? Why are they adding this to the vaccine schedule?

What can I do next?

I'd say just research it really well and follow your instincts. They are adding it to the schedule because they can... it means lots of money for them. Did you know they get about $350 per Gardisol (HPV) vaccine they give girls? It's big money, and unfortunately, sometimes what is in the best interest of our children gets pushed aside. It might be a good one to get, it might not, I'm not sure, but research it well and do what you feel is best. You should be able to find some information here:

Hi D.,

I have never immunized any of my children. I was not immunized, my siblings and their children were never immunized either. I come from a family of Chiropractors and have been taught and shown over the years how amazing our bodies are and their ability to heal. I had one brother that was not allowed to attend school durring a measles outbreak. My parents had him blood tested for the sickness and found that he already had the measles. They let him back in school and we were all wondering when he had them. When all our kids had the ChickenPox the cases were very low grade and they got over them extremely quick. As soon as our children are born they received their first Chiropractic adjustment and we all keep our families healthy as naturally as we possibly can. I was never frieghtened or concerned about our decisions not to immunize. I educated myself, kept from following others that couldn't answer my questions or concerns intelligently and most of all... I lived it and saw it work over and over again.

I have a son that would get strep throat once a year. As he got older the sickness got worse and we took him to our DO for antibiotics. He began getting it two times a year instead of just the once and finally two years ago had it so bad he had to receive his first shot at Urgent Care. Later my brother found a book on the healing properties of Hydrogen Peroxcide. My son (age 16 at the time) began gargleing with a 50/50 mixure every morning and evening, leaving his toothbrush setting in a cup of it and after cutting the grass or breathing in a lot of junk, he'll use a nasel suringe and flush out his nasel cavity with a solution of water and peroxide. He has not had a strep infection since he started doing this two years ago!

I have two girls ages 14 & 16. I won't be immunizing them for the HPV either. As far as the question I always get: How do you get them into school without their immunizations? I always quote them Title 15-873, and explain we are actually NOT required by law to have our children immunized in order to attend public school.

In the end you have to do what is right for you. Educating yourself is extrememly important and will give you the peace you're looking for in making these tough decisions.

Sincerely,
P.

I should preface this that because of strong genetic predisposition for autism in my family, we selectively vax our kids. That said, the only specific vaccine that has significant theory behind it that may tie it to autism is the MMR vaccine. Also, autism is not CAUSED by vaccinations. Some theorize that autism, in children who are already genetically predisposed to it, can TRIGGER it. But, no, vaccines are not the cause of autism. Additionally, since your child is already fully vaccinated, he should be completely fine.

Also, if you look at the risks associated with the actual disease processes for certain vaccines, you will realize that many of the young childhood vaccines prevent diseases that are not significantly more dangerous than the vaccines themselves. For instance, children generally don't contract measles or mumps until after one year, at which time their immune systems are stron enough to withstand most significant long term effects of the virus. Unfortunately, meningitis, if it doesn't cause death (and a quick one at that), often causes very damaging, life altering, long term effects. While the benefit is about the same as the risk in the case of the MMR vaccine, the benefit FAR outweighs the risk for the meningococcal vaccine.

Not only that, but if your child does not have autism by the time he is about 3.5, he won't ever get it. So there is no risk in him developing autism by the time he is 11.

I spoke with a nurse about this issue (new vaccine) this morning and she says that the menengitis vaccine has been added because the rise in cases of this particular strain of menengitis. Colleges are requiring the vaccine as well especially in the dorms. There is sooooo much misinformation about vaccines out there especially on the internet. The one study that showed some link between the MMR vaccine and Autism as been refuted by the actual scientists who where part of the study as being scientifically unsound and having major problems with their conclusions and how they were reached. The preservative thought to have a link was removed with no real difference in the rates of autism. While the rates of autism are rising the rates of mental retardation are falling at the same rate. I am a physical therapist who now works with special needs children but have worked with the postpolio population in the past. Polio is making a comeback and that scares me. You need to look at the disease the vaccine protects against and determine if the potential side effects are worse or easier than getting the disease. I did a research report on menengitis in school and this disease is often overlooked or misdiagnosed by professionals. Sorry this is so long but use your best judgement and remember autism is diagnosed by 4 years at the very latest, so there is no issue in your case. Good Luck.

Because my oldest had adverse reaction to vaccines, I've done lots of reading about them. There is a website that has all the ingredients and what the side effects are. www.KnowVaccines.com My opinion from what I've learned is that it is more about making money than about safety. The vaccine drug company is the one doing all the studies and it appears that they aren't doing them correctly. They are using vaccinated kids with autism as a control instead of non-vaccinated kids with autism. When I opted out of having my younger kids vaccinated every doctor said "well, they won't be able to go to school without them." I don't think most people vaccinate so their kids can get an education. I figure it's for safety and prevention. If they want everyone vaccinated then I say, make them safe! If you can't, then lay off! :) Good luck! I hope that website is helpful!
