I am new to the stay at home mom thing and loving it. But it looks like we might needs a little extra cash to make things a little easier. I have considered going to work part time, but once we pay for daycare it just isn't worth it. Anyone have any good suggestions. I am really not looking into selling a bunch of stuff because we live in a small town and I'm not sure I could be successful. Please help. I am an accountant and can type pretty fast. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

Since you are an accountant, I think you might try sending out your "resume" to lots of businesses - but specifically noting that you want to work at home part-time. You will have a better idea of what businesses usually need help with a couple of times a month. Maybe you can pick up a few odds and ends that way.

Also, if you are good with money or budgeting, you could run an add in the paper a couple of times about doing financial type work for individuals - or typing for a business or individuals.

When I stayed home for a couple of years with our daughter, I was a candy wrapper! You can check out www.wrapcandy.com . This is software that allows you to create personalized candy bar wrappers. (For full size Hershey's, Hershey's miniatures and just about anything you can think of at this point!). It was somewhat time consuming and you need to be a little creative, but it did bring in a little money. (These might be used for party favors, birth announcements, advertising, etc.)

Another thing that might work - put an add to watch a child for a few hours a day. There are lots of people who stay at home (and therefore don't have accessable daycare) who still need to have someone to watch there little person here and there for doc's visits and that kind of thing.

Then there is always the "doing your laundry" and "ironing" for people...that's age old way for mom's to make some money!

You'll make it work!

Try Craigslist. There is a job section and lots of part time jobs are listed there. Watch out for scams, but I have found some part time work that way, you just have to be careful. Never give anyone any money or any personal information.

Have you looked into medical transcribing or billing? These can be done from home. I believe there may be a short training needed as some of the medical terms can be difficult to discern. Hope this was even a bit helpful.

I am an employee with Asurion and we are currently launching our virtual ____@____.com program. We handle customer service calls for people with the insurance protection plan on their wireless phones. It is all inbound and typically we file replacement claims on the phones for the customers. They have benefits for FT and PT and flexible schedules to fit into your lifestyle.
We have offered a remote program for more than 6 years and we are now expanding to other areas of the country and making it a virtual program. You should check it out at www.asurionforce.com and www.asurion.com. Good Luck!

How about picking up a part time job that works around you DH's hours? It's not the best of all situations but DH and I did that for a couple years. I would go to work after he got home - I actually also had a freelance job but DS would come with me. I then worked 3 about 6-1 shifts at the local newspaper. It was good in a way as it gave DH one on one time with DS.
