Need Some Ideas for a Pin Project

I am not a very creative person, and my 7 year old daughter needs to make pins to trade with her girl scout friends. I need them to be simple and inexpensive, they want each girl to make about 200 for the swap meet event in March. I was never in girl scouts so I have no idea what to expect. I've looked online for ideas and all I can find is all sorts of places to buy craft supplies but no craft ideas, the leader did tell us she was going to bring in some pins for the girls to look at, but I was hoping to get a jump start while she was on christmas break. Any ideas you have I would be very grateful. Thank you!

What can I do next?

T.,

I believe that your leader needs them for a Thinking Day event. It's possible that the event is held in March, but Thinking Day is actually in late February (just FYI). What "normally" happens (and all areas do things a little differently) is that each troop gets to represent a different country. Last year, all the troops in our school represented Girl Guides of China. (We get together with other troops in our area) Therefore, what is China known for? Our older troops had the snack, in which they brought sticky rice and tea, etc etc etc. Each troop was to bring their own swaps (and this was only IF they wanted to trade swaps... it was NOT mandatory.... but I didn't want my girls to go without, while they watched other girls have fun swapping.) We made little foam kites, as kites originated in China, with ribbons for tails. We just put a safety pin in the corner to attach it. Relatively easy.
Okay, I've gone on long enough... basically, what I am saying is that you should find out what country you are supposed to be representing... then go from there.
Of course, you could always do basic scouting things... such as the smore in a bag idea. That's always a good one. My neice's troop were Daisies last year, and they just made foamy daisy's. I've recieved stuff from other states as well... Kansas gave out felt sunflowers painted w/fabric paint.
ONE more thing.... always include your troop number and/or your school name. Makes it more fun for the girls. Hope to have helped... feel free to get back in touch for more information.....

Simple pin project - safety pins and seed beads. Use a screwdriver to pry the loop at the bottom apart so the beads can slide to the other side of the pin. Your daughter can then make patterns with the different colored seed beads. Stop when close to the loop with the beads. Close with a hammer (or try to flatten with screwdriver) - carefully so as not to break the beads and then close the saftey pin.

The nice thing about these is that when they open them they never have to worry about losing the beads because they are on the other side of the pin. Also you can find the supplies at Jo-Anns or even Wal-Mart at a really good price. Hope this helps. :)

You could hot glue some wood or foam die cut shapes to a safety pin, or one of those hinged pin blanks they sell in craft stores. They shouldn't be terrible expensive. I've sometimes saw the die cut shapes in the dollar store in bulk bags for a buck.

I believe the clay that Nicole referred to is called fimo...or something close to that.

Hello! I just did a google on girl scout pins and there were many sites with clever ideas that popped up. Happy Holidays!

I'm not sure what it is called-- but there is clay you can buy, shape and then cook w/ a safetey pin in it. I would go to Michael's and ask for help!

When my daughter was in Daisies, she did a cute pin with her troop. They used tiny little ziploc type bags, which I'm guessing would be available at either a craft or even hardware store. In each one, the included 1 Golden Graham, one mini marshmallow,1 chocolate chip, and a match. On the bag, the leader printed labels to put on them that said "Camping survival kit".

Good luck... I can relate to not being so creative. LOL
