Need Cheap Maternity Clothes - Ideas?

My teenage daughter is expecting a baby in January. She lost quite a bit of weight due to horrible morning sickness early on, but at about 5 months, she's getting a belly now and her clothes are getting tight. I need to know if anyone knows which stores might have reasonable or cheap maternity clothes? I have checked a couple of the local thrift stores with only minimal luck. I just don't want to drive all over looking if someone can point me in the right direction. Money is tight here, just like with everyone else, so any ideas would be welcomed. We're in Liberty, so north of the river would be best. Thanks!

So What Happened?

I want to thank EVERYONE for their suggestions - we've already checked out a few of the ideas and are well on our way to having plenty of clothes to get her through January. I feel truly blessed that so many people responded so quickly - thank you so much!

Hi C.,
Check out Childrens Orchard they have alot of maternity clothes and gently used items.
Also if you go to Yahoo, click on groups and then click on Freecycle groups and join, you will be able to find alot of maternity items and baby items you might need. You post an ad of what items you are looking for. Also Craigslist is another one. W. B.

My daughter had the same problem and we went to hobby lobby and got some plain tee shirts then got on line at Hanes.com and printed off some cute transfers to Iron on them. You need a computer and color printer to do this. if you don't have 1 maybe a friend would do it for you. pants we had to buy and and they were not cheap!!! hope this helps. Good Luck with the new baby.

Ditto is a resale store on Barry rd near I-29. It's in the same complex as the post office and 54th st. They have cute maternity clothes. I also bought some things on ebay for cheap and Target. Good Luck!

Craig's List. just google it, go to wanted and type in what you are looking for. You can even say this is more a younger person, would love to find something more to that style. Also, if you live close, Motherhood has an outlet at the Great Mall in Olathe. They are about the same price as an Old Navy. Old Navy also has maternity but you can only find them in some of the stores, I think. The one at the Legend in Kansas should have some.

I suggest you look on ebay. I was able to pick up a "lot" (5 shirts, 1 pants, 1 skirt) for only $12 plus shipping. Shipping was like $6. Not a bad buy for under $20.

I had a terrible time finding decent maternity clothes and like you, money was tight. K-mart (Barry & North Oak) had the best selection of reasonably priced new maternity jeans. Major Thrift (Claycomo) also had a decent selection compared to all the other Northland Thrift stores I tried. However, Burlington Coat Factory (Antioch Shopping Center) has a great selection of new clothes and you'll be surprised at how cheap they are-especially compared to other retailers in the area. It was the only store I found in this area that had nursing bras and they were under $10. Check out the clearance racks at Burlington while you're there. I swear, the prices will blow you away!

Good luck!

I see that a lot of others mentioned craigslist- it's an excellent place to start. If you don't see what you need, post a 'wanted ad' on craigslist- it's free and pretty much always works. There's a great thrift store in Smithville called
Kids Kloset
1503 S.169 Hwy
Smithville, Mo 64089
###-###-####
They have tons of baby stuff and maternity clothes and often have 99 cent sales! And also, you can check craigslist's garage sale section...

I don't know what others have posted but Walmart and Sears have good prices and just shopping in the larger size sections works too. There is no law that says she has to wear maternity clothes. Also, call Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and talk to whomever heads up the Teen MOPS program, some of the young mothers may have some she can have or purchase cheap and she may have some more ideas for you too. Also, if your daughter is planning on keeping her baby the Teen MOPS program is a great program for young moms. Check it out. Good luck and God Bless.
