We just found out we are expecting our 3rd baby and want an original and creative way to tell our families. We did the poem and "grandma & grandpa" pictue frames the first time and my daughter surprised them by wearing the "big sister" shirt when we found out we were expecting our boy the second time. We were thinking of waiting until Mother's Day since it is just a little over a few weeks away. Please help I've been zapped of creativity, especially since this baby has surprised us all.

What can I do next?

I have a really creative friend who found out she was pregnant right before Christmas. She and her husband designed a label that fit around a small jar of baby food. I can't remember what it said, but something about a baby in the family. They wrapped a little jar for each of their moms. It was so cute, they opened them and were a little confused at first, and then started squealing! :)
Anyway you do it will be a special memory for you! :)

I used the same method to tell our families and friends that I used to tell my husband I was pregnant:

I took a photo of our oven with the door open and a small sign stating "bun." I'd intended to actually buy a bun at the store, but I was too excited to wait until I had a chance to run to the store. It was fun watching people try to figure out what we were indicating with the photo.

Hey J., my little sister just announced her pregnancy by using her first sonogram picture. She took it to Wal-Mart and had them develop announcement cards then sent them to everyone at once. It was simple and convenient, but also a great surprise and a wonderful keepsake for the family scrapbook.

I don't know how you might work this because it's not Christmas time.....but hopefully it might get your creative juices flowing.....On Christmas day when we were exchanging presents with my entire extended family, I wrapped a note saying I was pregnant (or something to that affect) in a box for everyone and I made them open it at the same time. They loved it. congratulations on your new bundle of joy.

How about a drawing/picture of the family tree with "New Baby" written on there. Frame and give as a mother's day present. It will probably take her a little while to realize the new addition!

Hope that helps!

Congrats J.!!

I always like the personalized M&Ms that are available on their website. You could do pink and blue and have them say, "Is it a Boy?" & "Is it a Girl?" You could dress them up in a nice basket or something and put somewhere in there like... Stayed tuned for Answer sometime around (your approx due date". :) How fun!!

I also like the personalized fortune cookie idea. You could all go out to a chinese restaurant and have the server replace their cookies with your special ones that say little phrases...OR each one could have one word on it and when they put them all together they make the sentence "We're having another baby! Or "January 26, 2008, keep that date free for Baby # 3!!

We found out soon before Mother's Day that we were expecting our son. We decided to call my husband's parents' church secretary, and asked her to ask the minister to mention it as a "surprise" portion of the prayer for Mothers during the service. It was a fairly small church, and my inlaws are close to the minister, so he was happy to do it. The church secretary loved being in on the fun.

Don't know if this will work for you, but thought it might help think of something similar (out of the box, that didn't cost any more than the phone call).

Congratulations!

Hi, My son & daughter-in-law wrapped a framed picture of the first ultra-sound photo and had her Mom and I open them at the same time. I was a huge and very happy surprise. In February 2006, my daughter gave me a wrapped box (it was my birthday) with the positive pregnancy test in it. Both are something I will never forget. The babies are 11 mo and 6.5 months and We are so happy they are here!!

My husband & I took pictures of fun poses and props at BabiesRUs store. Then we made prints and incorporated them into a photo album with other unrelated photos, with our "baby set-up" towards the end. We chose the 3-4 BEST ones from our BabiesRUs outing/poses and also added one more insert in the album, which said our newest attraction is coming soon and then plugged in the estimated Due Date. We took it around and shared with different family members at different times within a day or two. Very fun. It was amazing to see how quick or how slow each one took to figure it out. Enjoy!

You can have professional pics taken with your older two children looking into a moses basket or holding a sign with the due date on it.

You could take everyone out to chinese food and have fortune cookies with a message inside like "a new addition to the family will come soon" on it or something of that nature. I would have liked to do something fun but my hubby was so excited he couldnt keep a straight face and his mom guessed it. LOL

with our second, i sent a dozen pink and blue carnation arrangements to the grandmothers at work. the card read "I'm going to be a big brother. Love, Brady" they loved it and loved bragging about their flowers from their grandson and that they would have another grandbaby soon. The flowers could be a great Mother's Day gift signed by your children.
Good Luck!

My Sister-in-law and her husband took pictures of each other using their bodies to spell out the word "BABY" and used ribbon to put them together where you could only see them in order. Like for the "B", my sister-in-law laid on the floor on her side to be the stright part and they used a blanket to form the curved parts. For the "A" my brother in law just put his arms up over his head like you would the "A" when your dancing to "YMCA", I can't remember what they did for the second "B" and for the "Y", again just using his arms. The last 3 pictures, after spelling out "BABY" were one with my sister-in law with her shirt stuffed with something like she was pregnant and she was drinking a Corona with a lemon wedge (she was attempting humor there), the next was of my brother-in-law holding a stuffed animal all wrapped up in a blanket like a baby and the last one was my sister-in-law holding her cat all wrapped up like a baby. The pictures were black and white so it made it a little more artsy and ribbon woven thru the tops of the pictures so it was kind of like an accordian style when you opened it was really cute. They've got a very weird sense of humor so it may not appeal to everyone, especially the beer one, but I thought it was a clever way to make the announcement. I have to admit that until I saw the 3 pictures at the end, it took me a while to try to figure out what they were spelling with the blanket and their bodies in the first 4 pictures. I guess that's what made it kind of fun. Also, they live long distance so it was much more fun than a regular announcement or a phone call any day. They only did it for their immediate family members though. That wasn't the announcement they sent out to everyone. Congratulations!

we got custom fortune cookies printed when we found out we were expecting #2. I had my first child give her daddy one, and he was so suprised! Then, we used them to tell our whole family, also. I think the website was customfortunecookies.com, they were reasonable, and out of austin- so it was fast. Have fun!

Hi,

When I found out I was expecting my first daughter, there was a high chance my pregnancy was ectopic, so we called everyone frantically asking them to pray...not much of an announcement, was it?

When I found out I was expecting my 2nd daughter, I went to walmart and bought a pair of baby booties, put them in a gift box with a lid, and left it for my husband on the table with a card on top that said..."Congratulations.." when he lifted up the lid of the box, there were the little shoes and taped to the inside of the lid it said, "Your baby will arive around September 16." HE WAS SHOCKED! We met later that night at someone else's house and he was like, "really?"

WHen we were ready to tell our families, we printed up cards to hand out at a holiday event, and everyone thought they were for the holiday. On the cover it had a picture of a stage and it said, "you are invited to attend a theatrical event...." and when they opened it, it said, "...the arrival of your grandchild: Date: Around September 16, Time: Only God Knows." It took them a few seconds and then there was this roarous laughter because my first labor was dramatic. I have the card in my daughter's baby book.

Good luck! With scrapbooking and everything, there are SO many ideas!

J.,
We are a crazy family and we LOVE to play Scrabble. For our first child, we invited my parents and my inlaws out to dinner and then back to our house for Scrabble. When we got to our house, we had put the Scrabble board on the table with "We are going to have a baby" spelled out on the board. My mother in law saw it first and then everyone started hugging :)
For our second child, we were already going out for my mother in laws birthday (you could use this for Mother's Day) so we wrapped up a poem.
On the outside of the paper we wrote "Please read this aloud" ~ and then when she opened it, it said:
The presents are open
We don't want it to end
We just want you to know
We are pregnant again!
We were in Olive Garden at the time and our table erupted ~ I'm sure everyone around us thought we were nuts :)
Hope that helps!
