Has anyone taken there child to see an acupuncturist or a chiropractor for alternative medicine help. My son has a middle ear infection in his right ear, and I don't want to give him antibiotics. First I must say I am really shocked because this is his first ear infection (he is 3.5 yrs old) and it literally happened over night it seems. He has had a stuffy/runny nose and I have heard that it can be a cause if not blown or suctioned enough (I tried my best). I have read to much (prior to this even happening) about ear infection alternatives and want to try those routes first. I tried a homeopathic route an he slept like a baby last night (cold proceeded ear infection). However, I would still like to see what else (nothing invasive) that I can do to help him clear up all the way. Anyone have a Dr recommendation and/or advice? Anyone experience this and go the alternative way? Thanks for the advice in advance

So What Happened?

I wanted to tell everyone thank you for responding to my questions. Just to back up a little, I took him to the Dr on Fri 19th and the Dr said he had an ear infection. That night I gave him a homeopathic method for the symptoms he had, put him in the bathroom with steam, and put some garlic oil in his ear. I was still really skeptical of him actually having an ear infection because not once did he complain. Saturday 20th I bought an otoscope to keep up with what was going on in his ear. I am no Dr, but his ears looked fine to me (not even a full 24hrs later), but since I wasn't quite sure of what I was to look for, I decided on Monday I would take him to a different Doctor. Over the weekend I continued to give him the homeopathic method and steam in bathroom for stuffy nose. Monday 22nd took him to the Dr, and actually asked the Dr to show me what to look for in his ears. She let me look, and I was right HIS EARS WERE FINE...just as they were on Saturday when I looked!

Now don't get me wrong, I will take my child to the Dr whenever I feel it is necessary, but I would have been very upset to have given him the antibiotics that the Dr prescribed for his "ear infection". Mind you when I took him to the Dr Monday he was getting better except that he had a cough. She checked his lungs and said he was wheezing a bit. Now again I am NO Dr, but I have a stethoscope at home and he sounded just fine to me. Nonetheless, she prescribed antibiotics for that, I told her I was not going to give it to him, but to find another method for that as well.

So after this long story....hehehehe...all is well over here and my son is better now. Thanks again mamas for helping with the various advice that was given :)

Hi:

I absolutely have a recommendation for you. My doctor's name is Dr. David Karaba. He's with the East West Medical Group, 340 E. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton. (cross street: Lemon) Telephone: ###-###-####.

I have gone to Dr. Karaba for over a year now and what you are more interested in hearing about is that my grand daughter Gwenevere has been helped by him tremendously, beginning when she was less than a year old. The cause of her ear infections and fluid in her ear and mucous and fevers etc., was related to allergies, and through a special technique involving accupressure, she has been cured of many allergies, and is a healthy happy toddler (where before she was sick constantly). I love him dearly and Gwen enjoys the accupressure. She thinks of it as baby massage.

Best wishes,

M.

I have a wonderful C-1 Chiro in Huntington Beach Roger Smith ###-###-#### www.C1theOne.com this is a special type of Chiro. He gives a free consultation go talk with him, he is amazing.

Ear infection - take an onion cut it small enough to put in a garlic press and squeeze the juice into a small dish. Use a very small medicine dropper and squeeze the juice into the ear. Repeat every 4 hours or as needed. I haven't had to do this for more that an day he goes to sleep for the night and the next day I have done it a couple more times and his ear doesn't hurt. This has worked for my son and he has never been on antibiotics.

I also giving my children water as the first choice of drink.

I hope this works for you. Sincerely M. a Mom of two Clayton 10 and Chloe 8

I use Garlic-Mullein oil which you can get at Henry's or Mothers Market and always prevents them from getting full-blown ear infections. It goes directly into the ear. Several times our family doctors have wanted to get them on antibiotics, but I never wanted or needed to. If your sons ear infection is bad, it may be too late to use the oil.

I recommend Dr. David Karaba at East West Medical in Fullerton ###-###-####) to all of the moms who come to my shop (www.bellysprout.com) as he does acupuncture and NAET and is absolutely wonderful. There is also a holistic pediatrician in Costa Mesa, Dr. Pam Middleton. We also have chiropractors, Carrie and Robert Tanaka in Brea we really like at ###-###-####.

WE sell Child Life vitamins and supplements at the store which ALL of us swear by and during flu season we give the lids First Defense to boost their immune systems. It is great for travel as well. Check out Dr. Lauren Feders website at www.laurenfeder.com. She is AMAZING!!

Good Luck! If you are close to Fullerton you should swing by the store. We are a natural mothering store and resource centers for families in the O.C. area and offer many health and wellness workshops.

Hi C.~

My husband is a Pediatric Chiropractor and has a family wellness practice in Costa Mesa. I highly suggest having your child checked. My four children, ages 9,8,5 & 2 have never had an ear infection and I give that credit to them being adjusted and allowing the body to heal itself. If they have a cold, I will be proactive and put garlic-muellin drops that you can purchase at Henry's in their ears and it helps with any discomfort along with the adjustments!

I see you are in Anaheim Hills, my husband might know someone in your area, if not he has a network of DC's that are all Fellows in Pediatrics and I can get that website for you to look up someone in your area. I am sorry, I can't remember what it is and he is not available at the moment.

If you want more information, let me know and I will email you back!

Take care~
W.

I have taken my kids to a chiropractor with ear infections and they have cleared up quickly. I also highly suggest the garlic oil. I personally had a sinus infection recently that turned into an ear infection. I was SHOCKED at how painful it was and it kept me awake at night. I got up and put some garlic oil in my ears and finally got some relief. It worked for me.

Good luck.

I have been seeing a Doctor of acupuncture for the past ten years and have found her care excellent indeed. Pain relief is the primary function for why I have been seeing her. During that time I had been treated for any other ailment that came up including upper repertory and bladder infections. I use the prescribed herbs before I go to the doctor for antibiotics. Most of the time it has worked and I have not needed antibiotics. In fact only once did a bladder infection not clear up with herbs. Not only has it worked it’s worked better without the side effects I usually suffer from with regular prescriptions. My Doctor’s name is Jeanette Painovich and her office is on Kattela in Los Alamitos. Her number is ###-###-####.

Hi C.,

I have a 2 1/2 year old son. He had his first cranial sacral work done on him when he was 5 days old. I have taken him to the acupuncturist who has done acupressure and massage with oils and the chiropractor (who did the cranial sacral work) who works with color and light and natural remedies.

I have also taken my son to a homeopathic doctor who specializes in "bioenergetic" medicine who is treating him for asthma. (This doctor was an emergency medicine specialist (MD) before he started practicing homeopathy).

I absolutely believe natural medicine is best for all of us, however, there are times when things become acute and Western medicine is needed.

If you are interested, I would be happy to give you the names and numbers of the doctors who are treating me and my son.

Blessings,
R.
