I turned my computer off at night and there were no problems. The next morning it wouldn't work. It can't start up in regular mode or safe mode or anything. I have a lot of important stuff on that computer including pictures of my kids! So I want to take it in some where and have it repaired hopefully. The problem is that I don't know where to take it. I have a friend who took her laptop in for repair. They kept it for two weeks and when she got it back, all of her work, pictures, etc. had been wiped off. I do not want that to happen to me so I am looking for referrals from satisified customers of great computer repair. I live in Roseville, so I would like to stay as close to this area as possible, but I would got to Sacramento for excellent and affordable service. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi M.. I'm in Roseville too and have a great computer guy that comes to the house. His name is Dan and his number is ###-###-####. Sometimes his wife answers because he works out of his house so you have to leave a message with her. He's very reasonable - much cheaper than Geek Squad or taking it into one of the computer stores.

You might try calling a computer repair and new place called Circular Computers. It is in downtown Sacramento. I believe it is about 28th and P st. They do excellent work and if your pictures are salavageable they will be able to save them for you. I do not know their phone number but it is listed in the sacramento phone book.

M.,
Your laptop may just need to be reset. There should be a reset button on the bottom. If you can't find it, you can take the battery off for about a minute which will also reset it. Good luck!

I just want to warn you that it's probably not the computer guy's fault that your friend lost everything on her computer. This has happened to me more than once and now I make sure to back up all of my pictures onto discs/CD's and always run virus scans. Sometimes computers get viruses and everything gets wiped out. The only way two of my old computers could be fixed was to put a whole new operating system on there, losing everything. Good luck!

Hi, Mandy
(I'm waaay behind on reading my newsletters, so you may have resolved this already)

My husband works for a company called Nerds on Call. They will come out to your house for a free estimate, and let you know what it will take to fix your computer. They're a bit like Geek Squad, but they charge by the JOB, not the hour, so you know exactly how much it will cost no matter how long it takes to fix it.
