I have many allergies, and one of my symptoms is my ears get blocked. I self treat, by rinsing them every couple weeks, (I have an ear syringe) kind of gross, but they were so blocked at one point, the doc couldnt flush them & i couldnt hear. Anyways, now one of them has fluid in it & its driving me nuts. NUTS!!! Oil in the ear, never does anything, besides drive me insane. Im ready to grab a hairdryer & try to dry it out, but thats never worked before. Im not going to the doc for this.... no point. Im looking for other at home remedies. Ive thought of ear candling.. but not sure how to do it & dont have the candles either. I need some suggestions, its driving me crazy!

So What Happened?

wow, peroxide in the ear, was awesome, like an ear orgasm LOL! It didnt get rid of the water, but warmed up my ear & the tingling and bubbling was so soothing... Im hooked. I will ask the doc next week for a referral to an ent, because this is an ongoing & very annoying issue for me. Thanks for the advice eveyone!

Oh just noticed you had your response, but I was going to suggest peroxide as you have already tried. My whole family uses peroxide in the ear to clean our ears. Even my toddler! The only time my son got an ear ache is when I slacked for a couple of weeks or so from cleaning his ear. Otherwise, instead of antibiotics in the ear, in the ear I alternated between garlic oil drops (you can by the ear stuff at your local health food store) and colloidal silver drops too (health food store).

I had my first ear infection/water on my ear in march. I don't know how kids stand it! I was in excruciating pain. My husband did that ear candling sort of. We rolled up a newspaper into a cone shape and he lite the top and as it burned down it made my ear pop. Some say it doesn't work and is dangerous but it helped me! Once it popped good the fluid started leaking. I wasted money at the er because all they said is it will heal itself. Great! A month later, I could finally hear again! That is so miserable! Hope it goes away fast!

I get ear infections at the drop of a hat but havent had one in almost two years now by putting a mix of rubbing alcohol and vinegar (half and half) in each ear for 10 minutes whenever my ears get wet. this includes showering, swimming, accidentally getting nailed in the ear by a squirtgun. I also do the peroxide thing every so often to keep the wax down. I used to be a dedicated Q-tip abuser until the ENT told me that just packs the wax down. I also take sudafed 24 hr when I feel fluid building around my ears until the feeling goes away. good luck!

Ear candles are awesome! You buy them at health food stores. Kind of expensive, but well worth it. It's a two person activity and requires a barrier. I think the directions suggest a tin pie plate with a hole in the center. I used the top of cardboard box. It may take a couple of candles per ear to get everything out.

Sounds like swimmer's ear. My son had that and I freaked out because I had never seen fluid leak like that before, and my sister always had it growing up. He had drops for it, but the other mom's seem to have a home remedy for it as well :).

My kids get swimmer's ear alot throughout the summer because they are in the water everyday. The dr. told us that the bacterial type infection that occurs with standing water in the ear could be treated with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. A couple drops in each ear should slowly rid the infection. THis can even be done after each time getting out of the water...preventative maintenance.

Soooo, maybe try the solution for your situation. hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria while the rubbing alcohol helps evaporate the standing liquid in ear.

Good luck.

I agree with Tedsmommy, I get swimmers ear all the time and this is the fastest, easiest, most effective way to treat it! I lay on my side, dump the peroxide in, leave it in for 10 minutes (it will feel really weird but just leave it in!) then go to the sink and tilt your head the opposite way, I also use a syringe to shoot water in there to get everything out. Good luck!

Let's see if can spell this right. Hydrogen Proxide. Put a few drops in while you are laying on your side. It will feel really funny and tingle, but once you roll over ear wax should come out and the water should be all dried up. Instead of flusing my ears, this is how I clean them.
