I've always used the "teething tablets"...you can get them at the health food stores or at WalMart. They seem to calm them a bit. Nothing really helps 100%...tylenol, orajel, teething tablets and something to chew on...

GOOD LUCK! :)

I never even tried the gel... I asked for help on this forum, and so many mommas recommended not using it because you have to put it on *just right* for it to be effective, and if you use too much it can numb the back of their throat and cause choking... blegh. What I have done with my DD (she's been teething since she was 3 months old... what fun) was to give her frozen washcloths... they are the only "teether" she liked. Now that she is old enough for solids (6.5 months now) I freeze bananas in those mesh feeder bags you can buy just about anywhere. She goes to TOWN on those!!! (I ask if she want's a 'nanasicle' as we walk to the freezer, and she gets super excited!) Sometimes, the thing that works best is just to push down with my finger on the spot where her teeth are coming in. It seems like the pressure helps... she will go from R.-faced screaming to perfectly calm. (I usually do this while waiting for medicine to kick in) For medication, I give her baby Tylenol and teething tablets depending on how much pain she seems to be in... if it's minor, I try to use only the tablets since they are homeopathic... but if she seems to be really uncomfortable or it is keeping her awake, I give her the Tylenol. At first I hated the idea of "drugging" my baby, but as she got more and more uncomfortable I decided that I hated the idea of her in pain even more...

Hi, here's my great grama's remedy. Ora gel HARDENS the gum so it makes it harder and takes longer for the tooth to come in. Buy one of the little airplane bottles of jack Daniels, tip some on to your finger- Just a teeny tiny bit. It numbs w/ out hardening the gum. He'll hate the taste but it works. You shouldn't even be able to tell you've used any of the jack by the time he's done w/ all his teeth; if you used it like or gel. It's really good for the molars.
good luck

nurse, nurse and nurse some more. It's the absolute best comfort for him right now. Freezer teethers also help. And patience. It's normal and you can't avoid it.

There are a couple of things you can try. We use Hyland's teething gel. It's homeopathic and helps calm baby down and help them sleep. We don't use Orajel. I would also try some infant Tylenol (generic) to help relieve the pain. We also have a an amber teething necklace that we got from a Lithuanian woman on Ebay. Baltic amber is a natural pain reliever.
If you are nursing, try to nurse baby more often for comfort. Also, if you can wear him in a sling, it will help him feel a little better just being close to you, and probably help him sleep.

Good luck,

I used teething tablets for my odaughter and they worked great. A nurse recently told me to rub her toes...from the foot down for upper teeth and from the tip of the toe to the foot for the bottom teeth. Sounds odd, but it does seem to help sooth her.

I'm surprised the Orajel isn't helping him :-( It did help/ still does work ok for my little one. Have you given him Tylenol or motrin? How about Frozen things to suck / gnaw on? Wet some unused face clothes and put them in a sandwich bag in the freezer till Crispy cold! My DS loved these, Also we put ice cubes in the "net" and let him suck away on that!!! That Really helped him a ton! I hope things get better for your little one, and You!! GL

Someone told me that the orajel helps to temporarily numb the gums, but it actually toughens the tissue there which ultimately makes it more painful for the teeth to come through, so we quit using that. I love the Humphrey's Teething Tablets! We get ours from CVS. My daughter likes to roll one around with her toungue. I am not sure how numb they make the gums, but it definitley occupies her and comforts her achy gums to some degree.

We also like the mesh fruit holder with bananas after frozen.
And, frozen washcloths, twisted up into a ring, then I get the tips wet and she likes to chew on them and suck the water out.

Good Luck!
